After trying both DAWs I decided that Studio One is the clear winner for this. Cubase only exports midi loops (musicloops) and its a convoluted process. Studio One is drag and drop for both types and very easy.Trancit wrote: Fri Mar 11, 2022 6:17 pm Just a side question here...:
Does Cubase has an option to save clips with instrument or audio like S1´s musicloops and audioloops???
Is Studio 1 the only realistic alternative to Cubase ?

Thank you both...
I think S1 is in terms of Midi/Instrument loops, Abletons alc and Bitwig´s clips in one regard the winner anyway:
Previewing is done in S1 with an included audio file inside of the clip while all other try to load the whole stuff in the background which can take quite some time in many cases...
Bitwig though is the only one being able to save clips for whole groups... that a nice one too...

at least audio processing chains can be stored in Cubase too
at 2:00 top left window, the favorites part is global not project-based one and supports drag and dropping too and can be added/edited to/on multiple audio events too at once

Yep. You can export anything, just select an event (or several events) and choose "export" from the menu.Trancit wrote: Fri Mar 11, 2022 6:17 pm Just a side question here...:

Audio you can either export, render in place or simply bounce selection. Cubase's export functions are pretty powerful btw.
Also, doesn't really matter if you saved anything or not, because you can also import anything from other projects. This includes complete channels with their settings like inserts or sends for example.

Your missing loop is in the Mediabay...dellboy wrote: Fri Mar 11, 2022 7:52 pm Apparently you can, but I am having difficulty in finding my loop after saving it in Cubase 12. I followed the instructions on a video and it is possible, but is not easy like it is in S1. In S1 you just drag your midi clip out and drag it back in along with the VST that made it. Its so simple. But Cubase always does things in a more complicated way. When I get some time I will have a look in Cubase for my missing loop.

I never used Bitwig etc, so I never quite got what clips are. What's different about them than parts in Cubase? I kind of got the idea that clips were just saved parts or something - similar to what you can do in Cubase if you fit audio to part etc but I expect I've got the wrong end of the stick...what are they?

Clips in general are the same like parts in Cubase (except of the handling/possibilities...like internal looping and stuff)...kritikon wrote: Sat Mar 12, 2022 5:02 pm I never used Bitwig etc, so I never quite got what clips are. What makes group clips so special in Bitwig is that it allows to save everything what happens in a group (Folder in Cubase) into a single, from the browser previewable and per drag and drop insertable clip...
Imagine in Cubase you could easily drag a folder part into the Mediabay and it would store everything what happens in this folder part into a single part... which you could drag to any other project in future or build up your own "idea library" where every clip could be as simple or as complex as you like...
You have treated a complete group of i.e. 32 tracks multi layer drum recording and you want to save it into a single part without loosing access to all of the individual tracks and their plugins...no problem...
It´s perhaps a bit similar to Cubase´ track presets (i don´t know if you can save complete folders with their assigned group channels though...) but previewable from the browser and drag and drop support anywhere into the timline...
This is the corresponding official video as it came out (group clips explained more starting from minute 4:00):

Bucase needs some third-party plugin like
otherwise drum programming in S1 is comfier IMO, Beat Designer is pretty basic
similarly to GrooveAgent one...although jam mode is nice in it

You should try Bitwig again. It actually doesn't take all that long to get used to for the main operations. Once you get used to e.g. synth and/or fx chain in the row at the bottom, and find Ctrl+G to group tracks into a group channel - I think you'll really like the flow.LeVzi wrote: Sun Feb 20, 2022 1:12 pm I've been looking at other DAW's , not because I plan to move from Cubase, but you never know what might happen, and from what I see Studio 1 is it's only real alternative that won't force a re-learn completely.
I tried Bitwig earlier, identical feel to Ableton, I uninstalled instantly. Not saying they are bad, just do not suit my style of working.
Definitely worth that small learning curve. It's actually much simpler once you're used to it.
You can also use exclusively arrangement view - you don't have to use the scenes and scene launcher

Just yesterday some guys on bicycles with funny haircuts came to my door with Bitwig pamphlets.
They told me I should come to their Bitwig meetings where they do fun stuff like play beanbag and sing about Bitwig.

What I found, though, was that using Bitwig like that made me feel like I was an outlier and that the many little things I found annoying were unlikely to ever be addressed because it isn't how the developers think their product should be used. The upgrade from 2 to 3 tended to vindicate this belief, so I was glad I had moved on by that time._leras wrote: Thu Mar 17, 2022 8:12 pmYou should try Bitwig again.
