TrackComp 2

i wouldn't call Trackcomp2 the 'best'... to me there is no such thing... there is only 'best for source'. the TrackComp2 is VERY versatile and covers a gambit of options. i really like mine and use it quite often but no compressor is great on everything. imo it is worth the money if that is what you are really asking.

cheers

Imho, it would make much more sense to just download the demo and try it, then decide whether you like the sound and the user interface/usability.
Threads like these usually result in people listing you their favorite compressors or alternatively telling you “the best compressor is the one you know” and “use your DAWs stock plugins, you don’t need to buy plugins” (or “no software compressor can give you the depth and 3D sound that analog hardware can” if posted on gears**** ;) )

No its not. Its crap
I wonder what happens if I press this button...

their is something on the attack that is artifical to me, a bit similar to tdr, it s some behavior i never heard before these comps analog or digital so i find it artificial sounding, it sound like a fader moving , gain riding thing , sometimes it s just the ticket depending the needs .

I can't afford it atm. I was trying to decide whether to buy Impressor or not for $20 and in the end i decided to yes buy Impressor.

Thanks everybody

The workflow of Trackcomp is amog the very best. It has auto loudness that works.

Some included models are among the very best if not best, but I don't like all of them. The SSLs are the best SSLs for me in plugin form. Once you understand it, it's not complicated to use, actually one of the fastest workflow because of auto loudness. But it's a professional interface with some parameters you have to understand.

I think it's a no brainer to have and DMG are great people.

You won't regret any PSP purchase. (And I have trackcomp 2 and I think it's great)

Pro-C 2 is my fav, followed by FirComp2 and all the Voxengo comps. For the 1176 thing I love Arturia's version. For snappy "hold it in place" SSL style their Bus Comp is wonderful, as is the classic Glue. For Mu I dig the old Native Instruments actually - and the one from Pulsar.

Apart from Pro-C 2, I got everything else on sale really cheap. DMG rarely (if ever?) have sales and TrackComp is far outside of impulse buy territory unfortunately - it's a serious investment. Still, if it can do a bunch of different compression style types in the one interface - it could actually replace a slew of separate plugins and ultimately be worth it. One day I'll demo it and find out.

Owning Limitless, I definitely trust in DMG as one of the highest quality developers in DSP.

The Zener is has received a lot of praise. But for me it doesn't work for some reason. And the la2a is difficult to setup right for me. I still have not tried the 2k too much. Most of the time I switch to the G-bus quickly and prefere it. I read mostly good things about the 2k. Maybe I have to understand the 2k better or I just like the G-Bus better. The DMG models are great too.

I think Trackcomp has a really natural, smooth but hard hitting attack in general that I don't hear often in the plugin world. It's great for higher attack, fast release settings. And I often get this smooth flowing pump effect when compressing harder that just sounds right.

It's funny that The Glue was mentioned for SSL. It's a loved and highly respected emulation, but I can't get it to sound right. Trackcomps SSLs sounds instantly right to me. That shows that there is still a lot of subjective taste involved, so better test yourself.

Trackcomp is not cheap, but for the amount of different compressors you get it's a bargain.

I think it's fantastic. The SSL bus emulation is especially good.

I use it in all my mixes. Not the only one obviously... but I like it a lot.
Try it.
