like the lesser 8370 versus the 9590 is a marvel, so too is the m1. I believe the idea will eventually outdo all windows processors. But for the windows os, I see no point to have such a thing in mac. mac does not offer the lanes and they dictate how things will be, not the manufacturer, or enthusiast.
Or else people would make custom macs that are certifiable. Mac has closed its doors to the enthusiast with the drop of intel. They said customization can go to hell.
Windows needs m1 more than mac does. M1 or m2 will be the better chip when it has better programming. It stutters and it is stop and start. It's like a very very well made home-brew processor for a phone converted to a cpu and welded in poorly.

My M1 MBP loads everything far faster than I've ever witnessed. Its performance, restricted to Rosetta as I am due to the particulars, is life-changingly good.
So, yeah, Apple does not want people getting inside the machines any more. This is not breaking news and believe it or not some of us have zero interest in windows or anything about it. What's with the trolling?
"It stutters and it is stop and start." Well, it does for you. One has to suppose that's you, having seen a rather high number of reports that are all very positive and this being, well, unique. But the trolling, guy, come on. Muted, you're wasting too much screen space with this kind of thing.

I can make a video using My m1 mac with a logitech c920. I get kind of tired of people saying they know when I own one and I know for a fact that it does not live up to expectations. I don't use rosetta with the m.2 encoded obs, though I have it installed. Even with quicktime the c920 webcam is slow. The mac mini is a slow computer that's maybe good enough for a workstation.jancivil wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 10:44 pm My M1 MBP loads everything far faster than I've ever witnessed. It can't multitask nearly as well as My older pc.
It's not as fast as they say, no trolling; just the reality of it. The video will be up shortly; the difference between Me and others is I can make a video to prove it.

I took that vid with the mac, posting it asap in this post (edit: below). My tests are reminiscent of an i7, i9 with a gtx 1050 (ti oc) which isn't so bad. It'd be better if you can choose to upgrade the video, wasn't at the time of my purchase and for a mere webcam extra ram would not help.
An equivalent windows machine would cost 400, 500 to make. I'm happy with it all the same, but it has limits. At least with an ugly girlfriend you love there's plastic surgery, just sayin.
For those who want the m1 obs build head over here:

Just a query on what you are basing this on. Things like the web cam stream are highly dependent on the performance of the driver. If the driver is poor quality or it needs tweaks for this hardware platform/OS combo then you might get glitches - those sorts of things happen in audio due to DPC issues for example. Have you got other poor graphics behaviours you can point to? Are you satisfied with the audio production performance - which is what this forum cares about?

This is the computer configuration forum, the posts found here have many rationales. And there is no driver installed. There is not a driver available for montery infact available.
The c920 though is considered the most stable webcam in the industry. It's the most owned, most documented, most purchased webcam ever made. It's also the most documented and the most utilized on youtube videos. I hope that answers your questions in regards to the webcam. Whether for windows or mac, there is no more popular a webcam.

I'm not very happy with the way that it works overall in the way of audio and video because of the seeming buffering while changing settings. I notice that while doing things such as streaming and like utilizing samples seem smooth, but when there is a sudden deviation the processor seems to jiggle a little.
Like I'd said earlier, I think the M1 is the future of processors, but perhaps they need to finetune it because it's like a fast car that lurches before accelerating. I like a car that has a straight forward and steady level of acceleration so that I do not over or understeer.
I can certainly make some videos regarding audio editing with the mac mini. In OBS (using rosetta2), the audio has been sub par, and I've found that any system change or tweak instantly results in loud pops and static. I was also quite aware that the amount of latency from using the rnnoise noise suppression mechanism was beyond tolerable. This however is not using the m1 arm obs build. I'll also make another video using that build so to compare.

You're describing Rosetta here. This is characteristic of any JIT-compiling emulation layer. It tries to do as much work up front as it can, but it can't predict every execution path, and depending on how a program was written, it might have to intervene frequently, causing delays while it recompiles whatever piece of code is about to run.kingozrecords wrote: Sat Mar 26, 2022 4:00 pm Like I'd said earlier, I think the M1 is the future of processors, but perhaps they need to finetune it because it's like a fast car that lurches before accelerating.
Looking forward to what kind of results you see when using all native software. You might need to double check your drivers in particular, even if you don't remember installing any.
I hate signatures too.

Yeah, about drivers, you see I make music offline. So can't be that. You're right about rosetta, it can slow things down. In comparison on obs I tried the native m1 version, night and day. It'd be even faster in 32 bit because of less float point precision.Super Piano Hater 64 wrote: Sat Mar 26, 2022 5:09 pmYou're describing Rosetta here. I liked the native stuff I tried, but even then; still glitches. Unfortunately in the case of fl studio though, it doesn't support mic without rosetta2. I was disappointed by that. I'll still have a go and see how it operates.
I'll put together a video going over strengths of the m1 in fl studio. The only thing that draws Me to mac is one thing: that is the lack of asio; If I can somehow sing and record and mix without using that and still have functionality, this would be boss. If it can't: I'd see no reason to switch personally, That's what I need.
That aside, using the m1 mac is pleasant though as a utility. The video frankly reminds Me of My 1050ti/gtx 960 with all telemetry and services down. I'm not saying that's bad, but it is oldschool. Nothing short of a 1650/1660 equivalent, especially like the turing chip is relevant, mostly in the case of video. There's no musical exposure without a webcam, or video editing, or video work to promote. There is no career in music without video editing experience neither, none. In computers for the modern musician it's has or has not.
Like in the case of webcams, built in gpu's continue to disappoint.

I don't understand what you mean here. Are you saying a driver couldn't have been installed because your computer has never been connected to the internet?kingozrecords wrote: Sat Mar 26, 2022 7:22 pm Yeah, about drivers, you see I make music offline. So can't be that.

OK - so your webcam is UVC class compliant it seems. The OS effectively provides a standard driver setup for class compliant hardware.
I think the other poster who is identifying this as a Rosetta/emulation issue is probably onto something here. Class compliant hardware might behave better when the rest of the world - eg peripheral developers - catches up with the new platform.

Here is some fixes for those using an m1 mac and fl studio. I discovered workarounds to allow both streaming an fl studio out signal and also to utilize a microphone in mac m1 without having to rely on rosetta at all.
[video] Using FL Studio in Mac M1+ for Mic & Mixing without Rosetta
viewtopic.php?p=8391762
I always believe in finding the solution, and I'll also find ways to make the m1 mac a little faster for audio also, and for mixing. I'd recommend the 16gb model of the mini in hindsight, too bad for Me and the money I spent. Hopefully they have a faster m1 chip for the same soon, would be great. A slightly better gpu inside would be boss too.
Just because I'm pragmatic about something does not make Me negative. I merely see the failings and try to workaround them. You can't do that without first seeing the problem. I notice without using rosetta that the decay and release (the de-zip math) is not hindered and cutoff pre-maturely when using the native m1 version.

I couldn't believe how reponsive this thing is today, with 16GB, this project. And this is all under Rosetta. Nuendo 11 to VE Pro 7.112. Under Rosetta there are some GUI things which do not work, however (intially all of VSL's GUIs were kaput requiring a hotfix). IE: both revert to default settings for window sizing for most of it.

it's a work of art
it's a thing of beauty
i haven't hit the ceiling yet, on macbook pro
the master buss alone would leave little headroom on my 2012 mbp, and on paper the new one is probably only 4 times as powerful. never heard the fans kick in either.
