Thanks for the info, interesting how the synth change the DAC sample rate to make the pitch and diferent wavetable in each octave to avoid aliasing. Great work recreating this synth.
I see that its a diferent concept than the Poly 800 despite being close in age.

As far as I know the oscillators were digital as their sound came from what KORG called digital waveform generators. Filter and VCA were analog. The DW8000 is a remarkable synth with a beautiful sound and I also like the FB-7999 as well. Yesterday I watched a video by our funny friend Espen Kraft who gives a nice demo on the DW8000.

I see that it is a diferent concept than the DCO of Roland where no DAC are involved.

The PPGs are doing that but not the DW-X000 machines - their sample rates are fixed.

I used Stochas to send notes to a pad in the middle section; it made this section a little different between listens/renders, which actually I kind of like.

Work time: 18h. Probably the last ~8 hours of that was doing silly little tweaks that I should have been much faster at.

I noticed usually notes on EDM tracks (in a broad meaning, ie trance/techno/dubstep/house etc.) are sometimes way lower than I thought they were worth. In a general way, I get the impression that the genre of the track has quite a big impact on its final result. For instance, tracks somewhat orchestral using cinematic percussions (wich I love and use) tend to get better grades. Again a guess (I'm not sure at all) : tracks in major key tend to be more successful than tracks in minor key.

These are just thoughts and I'm by no means trying to change the way people vote, just wanted to know if this is something you noticed too, or if you saw other bias that you'd like to share. What are your thoughts about it ?

Personnaly I do think I'm strongly influenced by my musical tastes and by what I produce when I note : it's always easier to see what is a great synth patch when you actually tried to made a similar patch and failed .

No, there is only one DAC for all 8 voices, in fact for all 16 oscillators. The respective digital signal is D/A converted and time-multiplexed to 16 S/H circuits which hold the analog oscillator signals for the individual voices. No rocket science but still quite complex.

I just did a very rough analysis of the top 5 places for the last 5 rounds and got this split in terms of genres/tone:

36% EDM
25% Chilled
16% Slower tempo synthwave
12% Funky
8% Jazzy
4% Classical
4% Cinematic

Yes I'm influenced by my musical taste too. I don't think we're trying to objectively rate each track, it's bound to be subjective and that's ok. While there are OSC regulars every round, there are plenty of people coming and going - which alters the group's overall taste. One round there could be a lot of funk fans, another round could be a lot of EDM fans. I think there is a fair bit of luck what type of crowd you have judging your production! I'm just creating what I personally like - and see what happens...

So my entry for March is a more or less unfinished melody based on some ideas I got when fondling with this months synth. It was fun to scratch the surface of FBMs most recent engine, which I think has a lot potential for creating all sort of sounds. At least for an oldtimer like myself.

I had a great time with FB-7999. I think this one has probably become my favorite from Full Bucket. Then again I love simple, easy to program synths that you can came up with interesting sounds pretty quickly.

This one has a unique character, very interesting Envelopes (Break Points and Slopes add this little extra to sounds) and the Auto Bend feature is a joy to use.

Nowt EDM is a term that is not really well defined. Actually I get the impression that if you get to close to a well defined genre (I'm thinking particularly of Davi-dj's track in January for instance, which for me was one of the best tracks of the month and ended around the half). I'm definitely going to do stats (also just cauz I like doing stats, looks like you do too hahahaha).

Not sure how you made your classification, I would have expected a lot more synth pop / synthwave but you I should do the same as you and see what I get ! Totally agree on doing what you like !
