MDrummer - how to play when I hold down a key, stop when I let go

I would like to use MDrummer in "gate" mode - when I hold down a MIDI key, MDrummer plays a beat. When I let go, it stops.

1. Is that possible? So far all I can see is that it plays continuously until I press an outro note.
2. How can I trigger the loops from the middle of my keyboard (middle C plays a basic beat)? I have set MIDI transpose setting to -48, which lets me play a beat - but it also plays the kit piece mapped to the same key. I have tried all of the "MIDI input mode" options and can't seem to get it.

I'm not an authority on this instrument but it looks like you can't assign midi note off to stop playback. You can play an outro note or, I believe, a note that is simply note mapped to a pattern, i.e. a much higher note to do so. Alternatively, you might find a midi plugin that lets you remap note off to a higher note gate-type event; though I'm not sure that's actually possible, in theory you could probably do it.

For playing rhythms from middle C, I think MDrummer is hard-mapped. I guess you could resample the beat and use a sampler, though; that would solve your note-off issue too.

No you cannot sorry, it doesn't work that way. These keys act like commands for the drummer, allowing such thing would make the entire rhythm system messed up.

Hey there!

I hope you're doing well today! Would you mind if I gave you some honest feedback about MDrummer? Because a while ago, I decided against getting it because of the lack of that feature.

Imagine using several MDrummer instances on different tracks in a project (Yes, I know I could use one instance and route it to different channels, but the setup is much more complex than just slapping several single instances on). Now imagine creating an EDM or Pop song where you loop the same 4 or 8 bars as you are working on the chorus and add new synths, guitars, and other tracks while having this loop on repeat in the DAW. If you stop the loop to change a note of a synth or add another synth or whatever, all MDrummer instances continue playing, even after you stopped the DAW playback. Making it impossible to quickly add and audition new ideas/tracks via the MIDI Keyboard, as MDrummer is just playing all the time before manually stopping each of them. This is a complete workflow killer as you can imagine.

Although there is a "STOP" command on the higher octave notes, it's difficult to use it when composing the chorus loop of your song, as you´d have to add an extra 5th or 9th measure just to place and trigger the "STOP" command without affecting the main loop, and stopping in the middle of the chorus loop leaves all MDrummer instances running again, so that´s not a solution either.

It's beyond me why this feature wasn't added from the start (is there really anyone that appreciates having a synth/drummer that doesn´t respond to any note-off commands?) or as an extra mode like the "Drumpad Mode". A "Gate Mode" could be added at the top, which would stop playing the loop if the note is released (note off). This would be a great solution for everyone.

It would be amazing if this feature could be considered for future releases of MDrummer. As it stands, it's just unusable for me, and other composers I´ve spoken to agree with that. I would love to be able to use MDrummer in the future, so please keep this in mind.

Thanks for listening to my feedback, and I hope you have a great day!
