As for the free plugins... those of us who used to buy the stuff might find it a bit disappointing that some plugins are now being given away.
Dirk recently sold PA & bx to Francisco Partners ... iirc it's mentioned in the thread somewhere.

If I understand it correctly, there are 2 investment firms behind it (Francisco Partners and EMH Partners).
There is also a new brand for a development platform "Sound Stacks" which is an idea of the developers of Juce.

To be honest, I don't know what to make of it.

i don't get that at all. we buy stuff, use it. that's good, right? then, something becomes a freebie, or a 'gateway drug' :D to other plugins. nothing wrong with that, and nothing new about it either. lots of developers offer deals, sales... and sometimes something you bought 2 years ago is now 1/2 off. but you still had 2 years use of it. and something you were eyeing is now on sale; it all balances out.

It's called the supposed self-entitlement of some people in todays age. The me-me-me society
I wonder what happens if I press this button...

Yeah, nothing I've seen about this Soundwide grabs me as a great idea. At least as it stands now, it comes across muddled, at best. I think NI and iZotope are going further down the toilet and getting a VC involved is a last act of desperation. Dirk was probably just looking to cash out before the global economy completely tanks, which is on the horizon.

This whole partnership seems like a shotgun wedding. Even the name seems rushed.
THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP

Nah. It's probably just like the consumer audio industry. Look at all of the consumer audio brands Samsung now owns since they bought Harman. And check out Voxx International and DEI Holdings.

it's what we all come here for. an internet forum, by definition, is not a place for facts, sanity, or reason... but a (fun!) free-for-all. and fun is good...

"NI is now part of Soundwide"...is that supposed to be enticing in some way?

I love this from NI: "As many of you will know, last year, we joined forces with iZotope, with the aim of making music creation easier and more accessible..." Hey NI, you want to make music creation easier and more accessible? How about finally redesigning Kontakt, which has been in desperate need of it for years?

PS: the freebies appear to be freebies that were already readily available without this Soundwide bit. I agree with whoever said this is just marketing BS. Nothing to see here, move along.

Yep, that's all that I did. In fact, had I had to register anything new I wouldn't have bothered. This was as simple as a few clicks to lock the free plugins into my account. They had a bit of a bum rush this morning and things were timing out, but by the afternoon it was no problem.

As an aside, in a regularly updated linux, I was able to install the PA license tool, and successfully install and authorize the BX_Obenhausen. Whereas Izotope's license tool can't even find the same internet connection that was used to download their free Neutron teaser :dog:

But the number of hoops to jump through in the PA process bordered on being science fiction. If you simply give someone something useful, no strings attached, it will encourage purchases down the road. NI's gift of
Micro-Prism synth led to buying the full version, that led to buying Razor, that led to buying Reaktor and PolyPlex, that led to buying Kontakt, that led to buying Komplete 12, and then Komplete 13. The Native Access tool was the only hoop to jump through after the initial account. And it has no trouble finding an internet connection in linux. :hyper: So I hope Izotope will add Native Access as an authorization option for their products.
Cheers
