I'm not sure honestly. There aren't many samplers that compete with Kontakt either way.gaggle of hermits wrote: Wed Apr 13, 2022 7:47 ami'm curious. is there any sampler that streams directly from flash?Ploki wrote: Wed Apr 13, 2022 7:37 am Because it’s still built on the premise we’re running HDDs?
Zero engine improvements for running nvme. If i run a few piano libs, let me stream from my 6000MB/s drive and stop clogging my RAM for no f**king reason.
But if you compare HDD IOPS and bandwidth to PCIe4.0 drives...
maybe you couldn't run them at 32 buffer sizes (due to more latency of SSD vs RAM) but the latency is less than 1ms for reads.
obv throughput for random reads is lower but still, compared to HDD for which Kontakt was designed for, it's literally hundreds of thousands times faster. (1.000.000 IOPS vs 70-100 IOPS for HDDs).
And NVMe itself is 2x quicker than SATA SSD (2-4x lower latency), throughput for pcie4.0 is 10x faster.
When i was testing my M1 vs 6c i7 mini (32GB RAM) for Kontakt voices, the M1 could pull more voices with 10GB of samples paged to the internal SSD (3000mb/s, so not even PCIe 4.0 speeds) than the i7 could with 8GB of RAM still free.
I'm sure with some smart engineering you could make a lot of Kontakt stuff streamable from NVMe drives without any RAM usage whatsoever.

He did, others have linked. NI seems to have largely settled into their platform products. Honestly, I'm ok with that and wish that they'd double down on it rather than releasing half-ass synths that take many years just to get basic things working right. I'd be all over FM9 and Absynth6 as Reaktor instruments. If that means adding new features to Reaktor to support this, then awesome! I'm fine with them releasing Maschine packs, I actually use that content. I'm also ok with Kontakt instruments and I'd like to see them put more energy into that and improve the modeling of the internal elements. As I've said before, I'd really like it if they allowed you to define internal Kontakt modules with Reaktor.
I'd also like to see their user libraries evolve into a more modern marketplace ala Voltage Modular, but I have no delusion that I know what I'm talking about with respect to their business, only what I'd like to see.

It was (poorly executed) sarcasm from my side
I was referring to existing plugins such as FM8 or Absynth which are long overdue for any updates (at least GUI updates).

Don't often agree with BONES but he's right here, aside from Kontakt UI which does need work, at the very least getting rid of the tiny f**king text that makes it nearly unusable on modern displays. And yes, I do have to interact with Kontakt often enough that this is a problem.BONES wrote: Wed Apr 13, 2022 7:21 amYeah, you may as well stop making music now, sell your computer and save yourself the heartache.Caine123 wrote: Tue Apr 12, 2022 4:21 pmyeah yeah always getting people with free stuff and then turning on them with internet cp and switching off servers some time and bamm you sit there and cannot use the plugins anymoreYeah, it's so f**king wrong that people invest in companies that make tools we use every day. Those f**kers should all starve to death, not make VST plugins for us to love. I'm going to pour petrol on my laptop and burn it as soon as I get home, That'll teach them not to try and make my life better. I have a plugin alliance account which I have used to demo their stuff , forgot the password and can't be bothered to jump through all the hoopsWhy does Kontakt need redesigning? You never have to interact with it, just the instruments you load into it, most of which have a great UX.mixyguy2 wrote: Wed Apr 13, 2022 1:39 amHow about finally redesigning Kontakt, which has been in desperate need of it for years?I've never seen bx_oberhausen for free before but, you know... whatever.PS: the freebies appear to be freebies that were already readily available without this Soundwide bit. I agree with whoever said this is just marketing BS. Nothing to see here, move along.??? It's been a couple of years but I don't recall PA's sign-up process being any different to everyone else's.glokraw wrote: Wed Apr 13, 2022 2:07 amBut the number of hoops to jump through in the PA process bordered on being science fiction. Why the f**k not? PA's installation manager is f**king awesome. Overall, using installation managers probably saved me 20-30 hours of f**king about while setting up my new laptop over the last few weeks. I can't get enough of 'em.thecontrolcentre wrote: Wed Apr 13, 2022 6:24 amThere are standalone versions too. I never use the download manager.

I bought bx_oberhausen, and I don't care at all that it's being given away.
Give and take.
Awesome plugin. I can only highly recommend to get it. The other stuff sems neat as well.

I suspect you might be a bit sarcastic with the remark about slash guitarist... but yes... their Artist Board could use some representation from a broader range of music genres.. Rock, folk, country to name a few. Toontrack does a much better job at having broader appeal.SLiC wrote: Tue Apr 12, 2022 5:17 pmYeh, not a single thrash guitarist!nightjar wrote: Tue Apr 12, 2022 4:59 pmWelp.. Short-sighted and off-putting. They would have been better to omit such an effort.
