Similarly (as I've posted a couple of times before in this thread), I would choose as a clear example of an analog sound a vinyl recording of a 1960s Jamaican ska/reggae tune versus a YT-affected link of a part-digitally created song such as 'Drone Logic'.

We know that the 1960s vinyl pressing, and the 'Relax' 12-inch, and the analog saw wave, and the previous suggestion about a sound from an analogue synth from ANX, all come from analog equipment.
Therefore, it is simple for us to say that these factually have an 'analog sound' because we know how they were made.

And we know that "cd of the tracks released more recently" and the Serum saw tooth and the Youtube-linked "Drone Logic" clip are not analog.
We can factually say that they do no have an analog sound.


But if you were to listen to a track and you didn't know what instruments it contained, or what equipment it had been mixed through (and you weren't told these things) how confident would you be about saying and always being correct:
"This is an analog sound"?

That is the nub of this argument.

And therefore, does an "analog sound" have some intrinsic qualities that are always impossible for non-analog or hybrid-produced sounds to recreate?

an analog saw wave vs serum saw with sustained notes, 100% confident in that, most real musical examples a lot less

its not about whether its impossible to reproduce, you can do effects on photoshop to make something look like a film photo, that doesnt change the fact that film photos intrinsically (naturally) look like they do
