Auto fade plug?

Is there a (preferably free) VST plug around that will auto fade out an entire song at the end of a recording? So in effect, slowly lower the volume near the end, so it will gradually fade away till you can no longer hear it? Of course it would be nice if the time of fade can be adjusted to the length I want it. Thanks for any suggestions.

I can make one, but you would have to press a button to start the fade-out, because the VST can't know where your song ends

Yeah, you can do that quite easily in most hosts. Set a start point and end point, and it will draw a smooth fade out. What host are you using, t41?

Thanks guys. I am running Reaper for my DAW. I do know how to adjust the volume (using the start/end point) in Reaper, but I am looking to try different things and I thought there may be a plug available to make the process a little easier. But I suppose I could just go back to doing it with Reaper if no plugs are available.

Yes, thanks jcrisman I am already aware of how to do that in Reaper. I was just looking around for a plug that could perhaps make an easier job out of it. But I now realize I should probably just stick to the start/end point adjusting of the volume in Reaper itself. Thanks though for the reply.

Yeah in Reaper, just press trm, top volume is for the whole track, that's what I do.

I would like to resurrect this old thread hoping someone could help. I'm using Reaper DAW for live performance and I'm looking for a one button solution where i could fade out my tracks in case something goes wrong. Looks like no one has built anything since 2010 that could perform a basic auto fade out that could be linked to a single MIDI button press.

I can build such utility easily within Mulab 9 plugin. Amplifier's gain is controlled by envelope, which can be triggered for example by a specific key on your midi keyboard. There's a small caveat though, before you start playing again you have to retrigger the pad, I don't think it would be problem in your use case. I can give the patch if you want.

Looks like VolumeShaper might be able to do it. Here's a 50 second linear fade by 1-shot midi trigger - but I need to test it actually works. Ask me again tomorrow

There's Airwindows PurestFade but that will take 8 seconds to fade to 0 which might be too long for you.

Take your stereo mix, and simply fade it out in a stereo editor, for instance in Sound Forge.

I suppose you could automate your master buss if you want to go that way.

Perhaps the reason there isn't a tool, is most folks do it directly in their timeline of their DAW.

Or bounce the whole mix and drag the fadeout envelope over the clip to the place you want the fadeout to start. Unless your clips end at the same time and you can simply select all of them before dragging one of the fadeout handles.

Otherwise, a plugin that fully models an SSL Buss should have an auto-fadeout button for this very purpose.

I think this will do what you are asking. Here's the Reaper JS Smoothvolume, with fade time in beats, and also a mod I did with fade time in seconds.

Just assign your midi control to "Rough Volume" and go from max to min values.

Alternatively, a Melda plugin can be set up to do this in 2 ways:
A simple multiparameter in Switch mode linked to a volume type parameter that goes to -inf, with Switch Time determining the fade length (but fade in will also be this length).
Or, for more flexibility use the midi triggered Envelope modulator linked to such a volume parameter.

Everyone knows how to do fade outs in-DAW. The previous poster who ressurrected this thread was asking about in real time with a single midi trigger. I understand this use case because you can often be juggling a lot of stuff live on stage - and simplifying a certain process means one less thing that can go wrong. This is why I upgraded my Ditto looper pedal to a Boss looper that does automatic fade-outs with a single footswitch press - so much easier and 100% hands free.

Surprised there isn't a simple solution ITB for this for live performers.
