So can we expect a price hike now for all packs, instruments, effects etc because the cost of energy is so high, electric costs etc.

How is this cost of living crisis going to effect the music industry ?

I wouldn't be surprised.

Hardware already is getting more and more expensive. Which is something I don't really understand though, because, online stores like Thomann surely make a good living, as do manufacturers like Sequential, Moog, or whoever.

Just like with PC hardware, it almost looks as if they just waited for a reason to raise the prices.

Yep, the price of GAS went up.

Yes, just like in the real world. :(

And currently inflation rising higher than your income does every year so you just get to see your money disappear into thin air.

Cost of living is now about 10-12% higher than previous year here (in the Netherlands). Meanwhile my income rose just a couple of %

Post

Yep.

Well, it was obvious. I don't know how it is in your country, but, allegedly, Germany spent 1.3 trillions per year for Corona related things like compensation for businesses, and health related things. No wonder that everything goes to shit now.

Besides VPS avenger what other developers have announced price increase?

They actually announced it did they ? lol I am banned out of their group for no valid reason, so I can't see that. Their stuff is massively overpriced anyway, so if they raise it more, I doubt anyone will buy anything.

But I was wondering about all this if leccy costs rise, people on PC's Macs etc all the time making stuff are going to see higher bills. That's gotta be reflected in their prices. And with everyone else going to see similar cost of living issues, I suggest this could be the hardest time for developers of modern times.

I hope they manage to get through it though, because it would be a sad day to see some of the FX/Synths devs go under.

And as CHK said, PC components are outrageously high, at least GPU's as far as I can see. That's all thanks to cryptomining.

Worrying times.

Well it was always going to be a massive rebound after Corona, after all the money that was ploughed into it to keep people going. Here in the UK they furloughed everyone who could be, so it had to get paid back somehow.

The war couldn't have happened at a worst possible time, but I guess they knew that.

I can see for the next few years certainly, its going to be ridiculously hard for everyone. I just hope the devs manage to carry on too.

I guess it will make many people check out the sales more often and/or buy licenses 2nd hand.

Well.. like all businesses, the increased cost of doing business will be carried over to the customer in the form of increased ticket prices. And in turn the customer will have to scrutinise every expense they make a bit harder since all costs have gone up.

Exactly do not convince yourself to accept higher prices. Change your habits and behaviour. Learn to do more with less.

I would say what we have here is 'cost push inflation' rather than any real effect of government interventions;

https://www.economicshelp.org/macroecon ... inflation/

Lot's of money floating about from people having saved during the pandemic and now spending it.
Fear of inflation prompting them to 'buy now' to avoid further price increases - self-fulfilling!
Recruitment issues in some sectors leading to wage growth.
Supply issues (war as you say, things like bad harvests for crops such as coffee, oil prices etc..)
