Looks familiar indeed, but I'd rather see them go with modern standards and replace this pin matrix with CV bay as in Neutron or Mother32.
Or maybe Arturia matrix way, just lit buttons in a matrix. Diffferent colors allow for different pins, kind of.

If relays it could do perfect analog connections. To do solid state probably is harder without modifying tone.

a 22x22 matrix of relays would sound great.

just on their own, mind, no synth required.

clickety clickety clickety sure you can still pay your electricity bill? clickety clickety.

Isn't there a NO SMOKING sign here somewhere.... ;)

yeah, its behind the guys huffing paint while they suggest changing a VCS3 clone into something that's not a VCS3 clone.

Have a listen and check demo in upper right corner and see how exiting that is.

Must be 45 years ago I had hands on the briefcase version, and nothing I long for unless modernized.

At the time it cost about 2 months decent salery, before taxes back then.
It would be like a 16-voice Moog One today.

My friend let me babysit it for some weeks treveling something. He was really thorough that it should be powered up once a day, worst case every week. So capacitors would not suffer as I recall he mentioned. I can imagine spending that money he wanted to take care of it according to all recommendations he got buying it.

He also had a couple of cartridges you plugin to the slot, and one was called War or something and it became a battle field with diving bombs and explosions and stuff.

There's heaps of stuff they're working on that I'd love to be half as good as they seem on paper, mainly their CS-80 and Prophet-16 polysynths, but I very much doubt we'll see them for years if ever.

I dunno...recently they've been delivering. I remember the talk about a 2600 and an OSCar - they did deliver on the 2600 and then some. 2600, 2500 modules, 2600 module, Odyssey. Shame they never got out an OSCar, but it's possibly still in the pipeline. They generally seem to leak info 2 years or so in advance, so yeah, probably won't be imminent but...if that's a genuine leak I'm not sure they'd go to the trouble of cobbling together such a good looking prototype if they weren't serious about it. :?

And just think about all those Pink Floyd covers on a 4/4 beat we'd be treated to if it comes out. :help:

I heard they’re floating a price of $1200 for their Uberheim poly so seems my hopes for £500-ish megasynths have been dashed.

Even Behringer can't sell everything at bargain bin prices. Deepmind is pretty amazing for the price but they only managed to get that low cos of all the digital stuff I suspect...seems like it's only really the filters that are analogue. So an all analogue poly...it's not going to be dirt cheap. I see any true B analogue poly as being at least NZ$ 1500 or so. A Prologue6 goes for 1800 here and that's pretty well the cheapest poly available. Even their Monopoly actually costs more than an XD...

For those hoping that they will get a VCS3 you need to be mindful of what Uli himself said to me

"our design is not a copy at all. Please compare the internal PCB design with the original construction. When it comes to the circuitry itself we have worked with Matthias who runs the Cloney project and a very talented British designer who also builds VCS3 clones. "

So it's a copy of a clone. This one.

https://www.dsl-man.de/display/DSO/The+ ... VCS3+Clone

Given that the clone involved alot of hand wiring and I know that even the parts were expensive I wonder how far the B version will be from this clone.

When I asked Uli if maybe the fact that it looked like a VCS3 might be a bit misleading he suddenly stopped talking to me.

I think there’s a whole bunch of people out there, like me, who don’t need to believe they have a 100% perfect replica of something they could never afford, very close and within budget is much better as far as I’m concerned. Also as has been pointed out countless times there can be massive variation between the original units, good ones and bad ones plus people slag off the Behringer build quality, but some manufacturers of classic synths made really poor decisions re lifetime viability on parts like capacitors, leaky batteries, switches affected by dust, protective foam that turns into tar, dead key contact strips etc.

As with anything there’s a trade-off. To an extent it’s like Rolex v fake Rolex when you just want a watch so you can tell the time.

I agree with you it does not need to be identical, just good. I suspect for the VCS3 clone they won't go for the unbuffered matrix which is a major part of the instruments nature.

And this gets to the crux of my beef with Uli which is a bit of a nuanced point. If it's going to be close rather than really close, why does it seem so critical to Uli that they look the same? Even down to attempts to copyright original names and artwork.

Why does he do that? Why does he seem more obsessed about copying the external design and look than the actual electronic inside?
