SOS mag reviewed the KORG Collection 3 in the Feb '22 issue.

The author said: "Moving on to the Extreme soft synth, I was pleased to find that this sounds
slightly different from the Classic; there were small differences (as there should be) with its DAC emulator set to Classic mode. So which is the better version? In my opinion neither is — they're just a little bit different."

The main difference that I observed is how the included banks are organized. The Triton Classic shows 4 Factory banks A, B, C, D, plus 9 EXB-PCM expansions with their included category names and original artwork for each, where in the Extreme the sounds are all packaged together as multiple factory banks; A, B, C, D, H, I, J, K, L, M, N.

So it seems that you get more sounds in the Extreme, but if you are looking for a sound from an original Triton EXB-PCM, you may prefer the Classic for that reason.
Thanks - I installed them both then

Seems to be a problem though with Korg Software Pass - it's saying Wavestate and OPSix (both of which are registered and were installed with the previous version of this tool) are not installed, but they are, and when I click on the download buttons for them both I get a 'failed to download file' message

Korg Software Pass is sometimes flaky with updating current installed versions status. I just installed all of the new available updates this week, but it is still showing "Update" buttons for many, but not all of them. Checked and the new versions ARE installed here. Not gonna worry about it...

They will probably push out another fix to Software Pass eventually to fix this again...

Similar issue,Windows 10 FL Studio. If I add an instance of the Polysix or MS20 to a track and save it,when I return to the project the preset I chose has reset to default.

VST2 or VST3, or both?

I tested Polysix here on Win 10 with Ableton & Reaper. loading each VST type on a separate track. The presets were retained on both upon project re-launch.

I also tried it on Cakewalk, with 2 tracks, one with the VST2 & the other with VST3. Upon re-launch both plugins were loaded as VST3. Looks like there may be a bug with the new VST3 implementation that can affect certain DAWs?

Edit: sorry that was my error with Cakewalk. There is a setting to replace VST2 on project load that was enabled. Turned it off and the VST2 plugin loaded with correct preset.

I just installed Polysix and MS-20 (latest versions) and tried it with the VST3 in Cakewalk. It remembered the presets I used for both of those plugins after reopening the project.

For some reason Cakewalk doesn't seem to recognize the VST2 versions after scanning the plugin folder. I even tried installing them to different folders. :?
Normally it has no issues with VST2.

EDIT: I just found a setting (I think zzz00m found it also) the deals with VST3 and now they are showing up.

Check your VST settings in Cakewalk preferences. It can be set to only display VST3 if both are available, and/or replace the VST2 in your project if VST3 is available.

If you disable these options you will be able to see and use either plugin version.

Got it, I edited my post as I found it myself right before you mentioned that. :)

I tried it just now with the VST2 versions in Cakewalk and it worked for me again saving/recalling with presets I had chose.

So it appears that vst 3 and protools aax have the same issue? Anyone know if Korg is aware of this?
I'm Kinda a big Deal

had the same and got the info from support: update 1st Software-Pass manually
and that helped
but why doesn´t it self-check for updates, like all the other similar tools from other devs?

Yes both,vst2 and 3 ,the other instruments save the presets on the tracks .

PAK wrote: Sun Apr 24, 2022 10:32 am Yep. Finally a discounted (beyond "coupon") upgrade price for current customers. Korg love us after all  ;)

$49 from Special V2, $99 from Special V1, and (I think) $149 from the original Legacy Collection Bundle (without the Arp). For those inclined I don't think you'll see a better upgrade offer from Korg..
It's also 149 for the upgrade from The Special Bundle (with the Odyssey). Strange it's the same from the Legacy without it.

Pricing is messy in discount periods!

I have all the synths from legacy collection + Odyssey, but I don't have any discount! Yesterday I bought M1LE (2nd hand) for about $20 and could upgrade for $149!!

Anyway, Prophecy, miniKorg and Triton more than worth it. I didn't need Triton really because I already have MODX with about 6000 presets (covering the same + the FMX)! But Prophecy and miniKorg are top! Nothing like them in my collection! I love them 💗
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Woah.. Thanks for the correction! I'd assumed the $50 reduction was across the board. Even if the Triton's are the big item, in the upgrade, it still seems a bit harsh for Korg to be giving Special Bundle V1 (and classic Legacy Collection for that matter) users the exact same deal as M1 LE owners. Hopefully they'll be in the next lot of users to get a further $50 upgrade reduction. Otherwise it might be a sign that Korg are trying to "price incent" users to stay more current with Special Bundle upgrades..

Post

My aging memory may be failing me (again), but I seem to remember upgrading from M1 LE to the original legacy collection for $50 - it may even have been $25 at some point in a half price sale. It was certainly very cheap. Ever since the upgrade prices have been much steeper, and always been above the threshold that, given everything else I own, triggered my impulse neurons.

The one thing I would have paid for was the upgrade to the UIs, but the lovely people gave that one away for free.

Has "KORG Collection 3 - Upgrade for M1 Le" ever been lower than $149?
