If you say that that is the definition of abandonware.mholloway wrote: Mon Apr 25, 2022 6:42 pm I don't think it's subjective or unclear to use Abandonware as a descriptor of Exponential's reverb line:
• the creator sold the rights to Izotope
• izotope confirmed they will no longer update the plugins
the creator is long gone from the project, and the company who is selling them isn't going to update them, ever....in other words, development of these plugins has been abandoned.
Actually, I wouldn't even know what its definition is. Seems like some random term which describes the feelings of the people using it. Like "crapware". Well, what's crapware? Software that's crap, right?
At some point, software gets discontinued. For the one or the other reason. Maybe there's a successor software. Maybe the software is already long on the market, and the developer doesn't feel like it's worthwhile do develop it further, or develop any successor.
Take a look at how long the EA plugins are on the market, and compare that with other software not labelled "abandonware". And you'll see that it's pretty comparable.
Anyway, abandonware doesn't say anything. Apart from expressing the feeling of the person using the term, that he or she feels like the software is "abandoned". Could also say discontinued, but, that wouldn't really incorporate the feeling of being left alone, and... abandoned.
