Ew, that's a scratchy sound :?

Yesterday, I wanted to install PG-8X on my M1 MacBook Air. Turns out, I did copy it (VST version) over from my i7 MBP when I got it.
Although, I’ve tried resetting Logic Plugins multiple times, restarted Logic and macOS, always in Rosetta mode, but it never showed up.
Then I installed the last AU version and this one showed up in Plug-in manager. Unfortunately, I can’t add it to any instrument channel strip. Simply doesn’t work.
Has anyone had any luck with PG-8X on M1 with Logic?
Sidenote: I don’t plan to keep MS and Logic in Rosetta mode, so if the AU will not work it’s going to stay away from my plug-in folders from now on. Sad, but speed, reliability and more reliably updated plug-ins are more important for me…

I'm curious if anyone tried loading PG-8X VST version in Logic through something like BlueCat Audio Patchwork, Kush Element, etc.

I've had the VST running in Logic using Metaplugin for years. That being said, I'm now stuck at Logic 10.6.3 on Catalina, so I can't vouch for Big Sur/Monterey/M1 etc...

Post

I just bought a new M1 Mac Mini and managed to run the old AU beta in Live 11.1 (native not via Rosetta) via AUhosting (thanks apple for this)...it works....at first it didn't launch, i had to authorize it via system/preferences/security/general and then hooraa!!!
:-D

Post

(But it's really buggy.....infinite release on some patches..... :- / )

Post

Second test : running the current VST version in Maschine, used as an AU plugin in Ableton live 11.1, it works!!

Post

I've tried to get the old AU version (and VST) running in Logic Pro 10.7.3 on my M1 MacBook Air.. I gave up after a few hours of resetting the plug-in manager and restarting...
Had the VST installed since copying all plug-ins from my i7 MacBook Pro, but it's also not showing up.
Tried with Rosetta on, no luck..

Not buggy on my end. Mac only problem i assume? If so i dont care as i am on winsows

Any plans to slap another name on it and introduce detuning like jp8k ?

Post

For Mac M1 users, it works well via NI Komplete Kontrol AU/and or/Maschine ( VST version wrapped in KK Intel AU version via the AUHostingCompatibilityService translation tool. )

Did anyone manage to get the AU working in native mode on M1?
As almost no intel Macs are sold at this point, I think it’s time developers get on board with the idea that they might need to update their apps / plug-ins.

I’m not saying, Martin has to update his plug-in. I’m just sad to see PG-8X be thrown into the bin like this.
I’m sure many musicians love to use it and are buying new Macs and can’t get it working. Not everyone is active here on the forums, some folks simply want the plug-ins to work when they buy a new computer.

It’s almost certain that there won’t be any issues with copyright, so I ask you Martin - if you don’t have time for it anymore - let people who already OFFERED to continue the project, bring back this awesome plug-in for us and new musicians who will also love it!

Of course there are no issues with copyright. If there were, PG-8X would have been pulled down a long time ago. It’s still up, along with the donate button.

Martin has given various reasons why he doesn’t have time to update PG-8X or open source it over the past 5 years despite saying he was doing both, but he’s had time to develop VCV rack modules the whole time. Some open source, some commercial.

But keep hitting that donate button and maybe one day those PG-8X updates will come…
THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP
