And that wasn't even the first time, see his second post on this forum, about tagging, which already had some hostile vibes.FrogsInPants wrote: Sat Apr 30, 2022 1:21 pm Yeah, Madmac66's response escalated the hostility out of proportion.
I admit, that my response came out a little rough, but the tension was already there.
Huh? What?FrogsInPants wrote: Sat Apr 30, 2022 1:21 pm[...] And here you are, still being insulting and acting like your own response was totally justified.
Sorry, but I don't really get your point. Where exactly have I been insulting? The insults where flying before, I uttered none of them. And when some stranger defecates in my yard, I don't have to offer him tea and biscuits.
Like I said before, discussion about rules are totally fine. Not getting the spirit of the rules and asking for how to interpret is totally fine. Being frustrated at not understanding the rules is understandable. Attacking people out of ignorance and unwillingness to listen/read is not fine at all.
And how one sets their tone affects the replies one gets. And dropping the F-bomb in a discussion amounts basically to Godwin's law in my book. No further discussion needed.
That being said, I don't have any personal beef with you, as you treat people respectfully. But you have to live with the fact, that I respectfully disagree with you on this point.

Keep the rules as they are! Learning to interpret and deal amiably with ambiguity without making mortal enemies is a good lesson in civility.BrainBeatMusic wrote: Sat Apr 30, 2022 1:30 pm Hopefully, for next month's competition, we can have the judges reword some of the rules to make them as clear as possible to all entrants as trying to stay inside the defined box is half the fun.

Hello Lago Azul. I am sorry to tell you that you have used a plugin that is not allowed by the rules. All third party plugins have to be freeware. You are still in time to change this paid plugin to a free one.Lago Azul wrote: Sat Apr 30, 2022 2:28 pm

OSC Rules
Effects - what is allowed:
- Most Native DAW effects may be used (see below for what NOT to use)
- Most 3rd party plugin effects are allowed (Again, see below for what NOT to use):
3rd party effects must be easily available freeware: this does not include plug-in betas, demos, magware or freeware that has expired, unless a special exception is made that month.

I don't wish to belabor the point, but since you asked: "How much clearer do you need it to be made?" comes across to me as suggesting a personal deficiency rather than a simple misreading of the rules. "And resorting to profanity when someone disagrees, is just... ...'not very clever'," is a dig at someone's intelligence for using profanity. It's mild, and perhaps not intentional, but it's there.SeBaer wrote: Sat Apr 30, 2022 1:47 pmHuh? To be fair, I have on occasion been snarky or disrespectful to people or dropped an F-bomb in an inappropriate situation. I'm not trying to claim any kind of moral superiority here, and differences of opinion are fine. I just want us as a community to live up to our promise of this being a friendly and welcoming competition. That being said, I don't have any personal beef with you, as you treat people respectfully. I'm happy to hear that. I stumbled across the old OSC playlists when I was looking for synths to try a few years ago, found it an enjoyable and useful resource, and that's how I ended up here. I would like for that resource to continue expanding, and to be available for OSC participants to refer back to when conversation turns to past rounds.RichardSemper wrote: Sat Apr 30, 2022 11:44 am The submissions archiving has not actually been abandoned. Here's my OSC track, I had fun with this synth, would have liked to have had maybe some more effects built into the synth itself.
It's a reasonably light synth but I made some fun mono sound instruments I copy pasted and turned into polyphonic but they were far too CPU intensive to compose with so ended up not using most of them. They're included in the stats as they're in the project file.
I went from a bit of an off kilter rhythm to something more regular. I know one OSCer will be disappointed as they said they liked the beat but i think the track has ultimately turned out well.
Thanks for all the feedback I've got whilst developing the track, really helped me again with my composition and sound design.
Here's the Stats.
56 instances of Surrealistic MG-1 Plus (not all used)
Effects
VST:
STFU
TDR Nova
Valhalla Supermassive
LimiterNo6
Dragonfly Room Reverb
Synth1 (used to fire audio control modulation in reaper no sound is used)
Wider
Pancake2
Dragonfly Plate Reverb
OTT
Supercharger
Dragonfly Hall Reverb
Protoverb
AirWindows:
Console7Cascade
Console7Crunch
Console7Buss
Air2
PurestGain
Monitoring2
Reaper FX:
ReEQ
MIDI Tool II
Midi Transpose Notes
Event Horizon Limiter/Clipper
Transpire
Midi Delay
Rc Midi Channel Router
Event Horizon Clipper
ReaGate
Limiter2 (Tukan)
Saike Tight Compressor
Realimit
There was a discussion on the discord regarding me using Synth1 clicks to trigger the reaper audio based parameter modulation in tracks 3/4
(not my screenshot just to show people what i mean)
I then went and setup STFU in CV Mode for the new tracks i was making but as i had spent so much time tweaking the controls i didn't want to swap out synth1 clicks for STFU clicks as i would then have to modify everything again.
None of the Synth1 clicks are routed to an output or in the final mix, they're only used to trigger modulation of controls within the Surrealistic MG-1+. They're literally just clicks

There are parts of the rules which are necessarily ambiguous. The issue of commercial plugins is not among them. Yet the rule leads with the statement, "Most 3rd party plugin effects are allowed," which is either true but potentially misleading, or untrue. I don't know which is the case. There are an awful lot of both free and unfree plugins, and depending on what one is familiar with, one's perception of this could be wildly different.schiing wrote: Sat Apr 30, 2022 1:59 pm Keep the rules as they are! This is an improvisation I made to participate in the 'One Synth Challenge : Surrealistic MG-1 Plus".by Cherry Audio. In the terms there was a restriction : for the whole composition is allowed to be used, only the specific retro synthesizer.
For this particular improvisation, I recorded on REAPER DAW, using only presets (such as: underwater, thin bass, computer rhythms, tuba, voice etc ..) of the retro Surrealistic MG-1 Plus, of course changing parameters from interface controls, while playing ... I also used a bit of the plug in TAL-Reverb 2.
The basic simple idea came up experientially, subtly inserting each new element in the damping of the previous one. We could describe it as cross fading from one to the next ...
FX : 1 instance / Synth : about 8 instanceshttps://soundcloud.com/dimitris-talarou ... surreality

I have released a full length album and two EPs composed almost entirely with my OSC contributions. They are distributed through AWAL, and I do get paid, and AWAL gets their cut, all under All Rights Reserved. I have also produced a video for one of my tracks that was released on my first Album, which I put on youtube under my Gorgor Gathgorgorgor youtube challenge. AWAL got the video demonitized, which is ok with me, but it's still up for all to enjoy, and I still get my 85% of one 10th of a penny when it gets played on Spotify or any of the other services AWAL has distributed to. long story short, It hasn't been an issue for me, and really shouldn't be for any of us, IMHO.BrainBeatMusic wrote: Fri Apr 29, 2022 2:40 pm Seems I got some discussion going. I have not and don't have enough time at the moment to fully catch up on the discussion. You can see now why I was not sure exactly what licence I needed to be using for the post on Soundcloud as now I understand that all entries are archived on archive.org and so to exist here they need to be licenced under a CC licence. As for SoundCloud, it has been suggested now that It can be under whatever you want to release it under and I think it is possible to even change that as you want. I have at the moment still have my entry under the CC licence but I have also been able to set it to be monetised which still makes total sense. Just because a work is released under a CC licence does not mean the creator of the work does not have the right to earn money from said work it just in this case limits anyone else who obtains the work from SoundCloud for making any money from it. I believe also anyone who obtains the work under the CC licence will retain that licence but I think it is possible to change the licence on the work but and any accessing of the work after the change will be subject to the new licence and not the old.
I do once the competition is over distribute my entry to music platforms in the hope that it will make some money but also be heard by many more than those who know of this competition and those who stumble on it on my SoundCloud. I think it is for sure one of my best tracks so far so would feel it would be a shame to not be heard.
There is a chance if possible that I may also get the track YouTube whitelisted too.
