I’m trying to work out how to install rebirth on a Windows 10 laptop but I have not had any joy.
Is there an updated link to the above?

Windows 10 has WINHLP32.exe issues with running Rebirth. Can you update me on how your 'windows 10' package deals with that?

Hey, sure -
I have my installer prompt the user to allow admin privilage in order to move the 2 files for winhlp instead of the windows update installer which literally takes thousands of files to accomplish it.
Then, it resets the windows audio system because Rebirth.exe is often stuck at these times and that releases it.

I am still considering whether to include my rbs archive or any different mods..

I made an account to say that I appreciate the work you've done!!! However, ReBirth closes immediately after selecting Cancel for the Run Test... I understand that the Help Documentation was supposed to appear here, and when ReBirth force-closes, Edge pops up with a link to Windows error

Windows 10 version 1903 (OS Build 18362.070)

I've tried installing their "fix" only to be greeted with another error from the windows file "Installed encountered an error: 0x80096002"

Having a rough time getting my Win10 to cooperate for ReBirth in 2020! =( I do miss this program, my number 1 goto in 2000 lol I hope you can enlighten me in some way. I've downloaded every Re-Birth.iso and installation available for Win7/10 but have no joy.

Hey,

The main trouble that I see after using the repackaged installer is that -

some people have a fresh install and have not ever opened the /windows/Temp directory -

if you simply open that folder - WINDOWS - Temp - it will ask you for permission once - before you run the installer.

I had to find a solution from an alternative site from a quick google search!

Which gave me the following CORRECT winhlp32.exe for Windows 10 that Microsoft doesn't wish to have on their own KB article for the same damn issue!

I hope anyone out there who comes across this post looking for ReBirth-338 finds their joy as well!

My steps for Windows 10 users include:
1. Downloading @ford442's ReBirth.iso from above. (honestly, any of them I installed work at this point)
2. Access C:\Windows\Temp for gaining permissions.
3. Virtual-Drive the ReBirth.iso and launch the installer.exe.
4. After an error for winhlp32.exe appears as (9009) cry a little.
5. Download the winhlp32 fixer from https://od.lk/d/NF8xNDI2Mjk3MjNf/Window ... 07-x64.zip (https://od.lk/d/NF8xNDI2Mjk3MjNf/Windows10-KB917607-x64.zip) (I scanned for virii and found nada)
6. Extract step 5's .zip to C:\temp and opened command prompt as Administrator.
7. Changed to the temp directory and ran install.bat.
8. Launched ReBirth-338 and found all the damn joy when the tunes beat!!! xD

Best of luck to anyone else out there!! It was definitely a hassle for getting it to work in 2020 - and THANK YOU to ALL the Re-Birth gods who stayed alive and got us goin for the future!!

Hey so I did a re-install after accessing the Windows/Temp folder to give permissions.

Now when the Help is supposed to appear, I get a small windows prompt with only the text (9009). The app still force-closes before proceeding futher.

Any easy solutions in getting that fixed up?

I'm having some problems getting this to run on Windows 10.

Its installed, starts up, but says this song cannot be found when I load a song from my hard drive. When I start it up from scratch it just closes after starting up for a bit.

I've got the hlp stuff taken care of.

???? anybody still run Rebirth

Have you tried to run it as an admin user?

Yes, I've run everything installable as the admin by right clicking run as administrator,

and the hlp file needed that

I've also visited windows/temp and entered by permission

I've run rebirth.exe as the admininstrator,

I've just installed it today so haven't had much time to experiment so far

No idea. It's been ages since I last had it installed.

I remember the 64-bit installer just installed it in a folder in C:, and there was no uninstaller. ARGH.

Worked fine under Windows 10 here though.
