first thing to perhaps bear in mind is the the VST standard does not allow for more than one MIDI output for a vst plugin. The one midi out port is all you're gonna get. of course, that allows for 16 channels, but no separate pins.

if you want to separate the midi channels and send them to other instruments, you'll either need another vst plugin to ignore all other channels but the one you want (which is quite easy to knock up in synthedit but will ultimately fill up your rackfilter screen and become a pain in the ass)...

or you can get energy XT which allows you to do all sorts of routings within the one plugin. if you've not tried it yet, energyXT can be used as a sort of mega-rack-filter... load the plugin, and then inside it you can chain up as many plugins as you like in any way you like, but it has the advantage of having its own built in things you can plonk between them (such as midi channel splitting, arpeggiator, chord etc..) and also its own sequencer, and a sampler/beat slicer.

highly recommended.

oh sorry this as most posts has turned into an eXT ad!
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

Ron,

You can put a MIDI ch. filter thingie after each instance of the rack, or use a midi chanell splitter.

Splitastic was made just for this sort of thing.

uhhh i cant really find how you use splittastic to split 16 midi channels up into separate vsti's and separate tracks.... can you elaborate?

the problem is that not all VSTs allow you to chose the midi channel they receive on... so as suggested you need a midi filter before each VST. energyXT's MidiCh component can do this. Just load up eXT, hook up a midiCh component alone. Open the midiCh comp, and you'll see 16 channels with numbers underneath them. The numbers underneath represent the channel that the midi will be sent out on. Make it so that it all channels except the one you are interested in are set to '--' (that means no output), then for the channel you are interested in, set it to '01' because most instruments repond to channel 1.

Now you need to do that for each instrument you have attached.

so channel 1 would be something like 01 01 with 02 --, 03 --, 04 -- .. 16 --.

channel 2 would be something like 01 --, 02 01, 03 --, 04 --.. 16 --.

you do that for all 16 channels, and place one of these in front of each VST (assuming you have 16 VSTs). Now, you wire that single output from ReViSiT to all of those eXT instances. Then you connect each eXT instance to it's respective VST.

Another option is to place all the VST inside eXT.. because eXT allows you to define the receive channel for any VST Then you just wire reViSiT to a single eXT instance... then wire each VST inside eXT to it's midi input. Then open each VST in eXT and assign the receive channel to 1..16 depending on how many instruments you are using.

it sound more confusing than it really is..

Im not really in a position to buy ext... ummm maybe make us a senderella midi edition? lol... but seriously are there any freeware routing tools? I've looked, cant really find one yet, but i could swear there would be one

Maybe one or two of these tools are handy to you:

Yeah.. NiallM's stuff should definately work.. and it's very clear and straight forward. Use his MidiChannelFilter to sift out the midich 1-16 from ReViSiT to each instrument, and use the MidiChanneliser to turn them all back to ch-1 for each instrument (unless you can pick the midi channel on the VST itself)... that'll do the trick me thinks.

see now THIS is what i was looking for! THANK YOU EVERYONE!

Question... is there a quick, easy modular way to do this without spending and entire life making this?

*edit*
never mind, i figure i could just make a template rack for it. :) Now im happy!
