Most people I know refer to dance music by the genre they prefer e.g. doof, trance party, dubstep, techno, house music etc. etc. etc.
In fact, I don't know anyone who uses the term "EDM" except right here on KVR. It seems to be more of an industry / media term, rather than in common usage.
Peace,
Andy.

It's become the new word for "techno" which always had a specific meaning but the average person didn't seem to know that.ZenPunkHippy wrote:Most people I know refer to dance music by the genre they prefer e.g. doof, trance party, dubstep, techno, house music etc. etc. etc.

Ghetto is a a type of synth, not a description of its origin, hope that clears things up. I think that you're a bit confused about what I'm interested in and what I think my understanding of current research explains. Andy hits the nail on the head.bermudagold wrote:Do I find it ironic that someone with the alias ghettosynth doesn't seem too interested in much of the synth music coming out of the world's ghettos...yes...but that's cool too
It's not an understanding, it's an attempt to gain some level of understanding. I went to a lecture this evening on the very topic, more specifically, on the relation between rhythm and emotion, and entrainment, which is the synchronization that I've been talking about. It was interesting and gave me some new directions, that doesn't happen often at such lectures. My understanding of current research is no more narrow than what I'm aware that we actually know. If you "know" more, then by all means share. That's how research works, we do the best we can with the limitations of our ability to measure and interpret. It's pretty hard to do the Melborne OR Harlem shuffle inside an MRI machine. If you are happy with your understanding, and enjoy the narrow confines of it,..

Yes, I'm nekro-ing an old thread. Don't ask me why I'm here, that happens from time to time. It's been nearly a decade since this discussion. Some of the music in here still sounds great to me, sadly, many of the links are dead. YaY internets. I'm not so much interested in debating these days, but I'd love it if this picked up with some new perceptions.

Do people not understand what the word "dance" means? Because there is f**k-all here that anyone could dance to. Maybe a couple of pieces in that Noir Times EP but that's about it.
None of this is new in 2013 it's music you can dance to, just to give you a clue -
