their modular system is not very fun to use, but man does it *sound* good.
I really really hope they come out with an update for the modular system that changes the UI. I really really want to like it but it just kills my creativity.

For me it's simple: UAD if you can afford it, softube if you want to save for worth digitals ;)

Have all been mentioned yet? The thread will go on at least three times as long as the last emulation had been mentioned. The poor OP has to listen now to all of them, though her intention was maybe to avoid that…

For me - easily UAD for emulations of older equipment.

Though of course there are plenty others that make great stuff too. And tons of non analog emulations that are also very decent.

I think it is possible to pick any one of these companies tools and make great mixes:
UAD
Softube
Brainworx (well except reverb and delay)
Fabfilter
Native Instruments
Voxengo
Cubase :hihi:
Eventide
Melda
Waves
d16 (except EQ)
IK

I think we're past the point where anything is holding back mixes.

Interesting, no Arturia FX. Why not? I don’t own their FX collection, but I’m leaning towards getting it when the next sale comes. I’m mostly interested in the compressors and EQs they’ve included. Are Arturia‘s emulations significantly worse than f.e. UAD in your opinion?

I think here at KVR you will have a hard time finding someone who really has any experience with the
original gear, so this thread is not much more than an irrelevant list of personal favourites (for whatever reason) of random folks.

If you are in search of informed opinions regarding this very matter, Gearspace is a much better place. (And still you have to take everything you read over there with a feew grains of salt.)

However I think that this is an excellent point to take from this thread:

Yeah, that’s my thinking as well. It’s all the more surprising that almost no one is mentioning Arturias‘s tools. I mean, how bad can they be :hihi:

I for one really love them... but then again I have very little experience with the gear they're modelling, so what do I know... :hihi:

I'm very pleasantly surprised about their new Korg MS-20 emulation. Sounds 100 times better than the Korg Legacy one to me. That thing fkn screams.

Shame they have no intro sale for it, or something. If I could have gotten it for 69 €, like Pigments, I would have seriously considered it. 199 € is a bit of a joke TBH, especially considering how limited the thing is.

Right, same here. Personally I don’t even care that much if it’s a „faithful“ recreation. I want it to sound good, that’s all. But maybe that’s the wrong thread for that :hihi:

I’m waiting for a sale. No way I’m paying more for an upgrade than for all of V8 (150 bucks :clown:).

I mentioned them. But this is an FX thread, not a synth thread, and I don’t think nearly as many people use their FX.

I have the FX Collection 2, and there’s some stuff in there that I use a lot, like the Plate-140 and Dimension D. I replaced Waves dbx 160 with Arturia’s VCA-65, and Waves REDD with Arturia’s V76 when I need a vintage Abbey Road sound.

Arturia’s spring reverb is on the level with their plate. It’s very authentic and very trashy. It’s just a question of how often do you really need a dirty spring reverb.

Everything in FX Collection 2 is good, but I still prefer other models of some stuff, like the Lindell 80 over Arturia’s 1973, and IK for the Space Echo and 1176. I may be switching to the Arturia models for all of these, though, if we don’t get M1 updates for Lindell and T-RackS soon.

Maybe you did, but then again you could have replaced it with whatever else, since both model entirely different devices (which might help to explain the vast differences between these two plugins :hihi:)

If i had to choose kne developer who makes best analog emulations for synths and effects, would have to be softube.

For different categories:

Effects: softube, uad, fuse audio.
Synths: softube, u-he, tal, gforce..

I’m pleased that they make emulations of older revered gear, but frankly I don’t know the originals and I don’t care. I assume the old stuff was revered because it helped make stuff sound better, that’s all. And I happen to own a 2022 set of ears that are in every way comparable to a 1980 set of ears, and possibly even a 1992 set of ears [and I should know, I’ve owned these ears since the early 1970s - they are the true vintage gear in my studio]

If I think this stuff makes my stuff sound better to my 2022 ears, that will do nicely. So, with that in mind I use the NI/Softube stuff and also the stuff in Logic Pro, specifically the limiter [with a custom setting based on classical, it sits on everything from the composition process onward] and vintage compressor [set to Opto, I like the noise that comes out].
