Waveform track level display?

Hi there,

Is there a way to get Waveform (11) to show me the track level next to the waveform (or anywhere else for that matter)?

I switched from Audacity to try my luck in Waveform, since Audacity was pretty much fighting me on every step of the way. But it did have something like what I'm looking for, see for instance the image below (the level showing vertically from 1.0 to -1.0 next to each channel)

I want to edit some tracks to make seamless loops, and I need to find that 0.0 level.

I hope someone can help me out. Thanks in advance!

Have you tried zooming in a lot? I'm sure you'll find plenty of zero points to cut at.

Hi Jabe, thanks for the quick reply!

I'm not fully understanding you yet.

This is an example track from the course:

Zoomed in it looks like this:

Or max zoomed in like this:

How can you tell where exactly 0.0 is?

I agree there should be a scale grid when zoomed in, or at least a way to line up the level and pan meter to it. I don't encounter this with samples, but do when changing the gain of a clip. A meter would be better than eyeballing it.

Audacity has a zero level line so it might be easier to isolate your samples in that.

I think, the OP is about the scale next to the track. Those 1. 0.5, 0, -0.5, -1 numbers...

I think it would be valuable for Waveform to include a horizontal scale or some form of meter on the track accordingly.

It would be useful indeed! But for now at least I know that a level like that is not available yet. I can always switch between Audacity and Waveform where needed :).

Thanks for the info you all, this has been very helpful

Interesting to me, your use case. It makes sense to find where a wave passes through its zero point. We used to do sampling like that back in the day, but software has since made that easier. However, when working with loops, that old trick is still highly relevant. A meter or scale with a clear "0" would make that a snap.

My issue has always been the opposite: trying to match gain levels between different clips. A scale or meter on the side would be really useful, there, too, to figure out where +1 and -1 are.
