Bitwig 4.3b3 and CLAP Version of Surge XT Nightly - Voice Stacking works

Just found out that Bitwig 4.3b3 supports Voice Stacking with CLAP version of Surge XT nightly.
So you can use Surges Unisono and on top of that you can ask Bitwig to stack up to five voices ... and modulate stuff depending on voice number. Isn't that crazy?

MFM2 has an early CLAP version, but it does not match the recent Bitwig versions so it doesn't work. It will be a while before u-he has functional CLAP plugins.

Using Bitwig b3, I tried (for the first time) firing up yesterdays version of Surge nightly in Win10.
I know about the json-file and created it in the correct location.
Bitwig does not show me the clap-version of Surge, although I installed it and added the clap-path to Bitwig’s preferences.
I must be doing something wrong, but am out of ideas. Any clue would be very welcome, I am eager to test drive this

Code: Select all
clap: trueCode: Select all
c:\users\<your user id>\AppData\local\Bitwig1.) Install Bitwig.
2.) enable clap as described above
3.) Install current Surge XT nightly
4.) fire up bitwig
5.) check config:
5.1.) If clap has been enabled *correctly* the standard CLAP path is set automatically to point to: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Clap. NO manual setting of path needed
5.2.) go to bitwig's help page via the wig icon on the main screen, then to the left "about". You should be able to find: "CLAP API version: 0.25.0"
5.3.) in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Clap you find surge xt files
then please be a little patient ... it might require some time because bitwig is scanning stuff.
This works at least for me. I cannot take any gurantee it works on your system. might be scanning clpa folder is prevented due to "security" settings or that alike.

Yeah, I was a bit confused as well. at least I expected curly braces and quotation marks "everywhere". It's more a yaml as it is now ... Anyways, good that it works now. Have fun!AuralBee wrote: Fri May 27, 2022 1:09 pm Thanks so much Peter! The culprit: I had formatted the json-file as a json-file...your info triggered me to try it without formatting: success![]()

Ha yeah we are very excited about this feature! We are tracking one bug in xt nightly/43b3 where the stack modulator doesn’t send modulations in the case of multiple voices modulating one parameter. But the poly mod + stacking is just super cool indeed! Happy to discuss on surge discord in the clap channel any time

Also very excited about the new possibilities with clap.
However, as somebody already said MacOS prevents Bitwig scanning the clap folder... and when I press "Open Anyway" in the security settings, it opens the folder with the containing plugin but the message does not disappear and Bitwig still cannot scan the plugin...
Anyone knows what todo? (MacOS Catalina)

We're going to release CLAP betas of ACE and Hive with polyphonic parameter modulation in a few weeks, then port everything else. Diva, Bazille and Repro will certainly get polyphonic modulation as well.

How do you create a json file or is it installed already?

Create a text file with a text editor with the text "clap: true" in it and change the extension from .txt to .json
It is not a special format, only the extension tells the interpreting software how to read it.
Just make sure you use a pure text editor and not something like MS word etc.
Visual Studio Code is a good choice, since it can also help with the formatting (although that isn't really needed in this case
Cheers,
Tom

Indeed! Hive 2 is among my favourite plugins and voice stacking it in Bitwig could work really well. Along with support for MPE and MTS-ESP, this kind of polyphonic modulation can really make a plugin sing.
