Hi
I have just started to test Mulab which I did not know until now. It's a great program by the way.
I would like to find the shortcut for the "switch composer<-> edit" button, but I can't find the equivalent function.
I found "edit", but
1 it's a contextual function,
2 it opens the pianoRoll in a new window. This is not what I'm looking for.
I also searched the forum but couldn't find it.
Sorry if the answer is obvious.
Thanks

What about double-clicking the part? That's faster than selecting the part and then having to press a key, no?

Post

Yes, but when it comes to returning to composer... no double click.
The less I have to use the mouse, the more comfortable I am :).

You can use escape to return to the composer.

we have a shortcut for Show/Hide Browser, Live Matrix, Project Main Module, Project Modular Area, Rack Desk, Time Line, but not for the most used function Switch Composer <-> Editor ?

Post

Thank humanboeing, that did half the trick haha.
But I agree with Hermu. It's a bit odd.

Post

To enter the editor, double click the clip. That's the fastest way. A shortcut won't make it faster.

To return to the main composer view you can press Esc.

So what exactly is odd / missing?

Post

If the clip is not selected, double clic is required, ok, but if it's already selected ?
I don't think I'm going to try to argue why a shortcut is faster than move the mouse to the clip or to the top left part of the screen.
But ok with escape for the return it's not a big deal.

Thank anyway for quick answer.
cheers

Escape is a no-no in VST hosts.
In Reaper and Cantabile it closes the plugin.
A proper shortcut would be appreciated.

there must be a big problem to add a shortcut for Switch Composer <-> Editor function.
i agree with cousin_tt, press Esc could have a unexpected side effect and close other open plugins.

Not at all.
What's your reason to make such conclusion?

If Esc would close a plugin window it would mean that the key focus is on that plugin window hence it would not take action in the composer window.

If Esc would close the part editor and return to main composer view it would mean that the key focus is on the composer window hence it would not take action in a plugin window.

So i don't see any problematic interference.

Anyway, what lozzec wrote makes sense:
If the clip is not selected, double clic is required, ok, but if it's already selected ?
Sometimes there indeed are cases you want to quickly switch views between part editor view and main composer view for the same part to check something in the composer. So i've taken note about this.

Thank you :) .

And not to get into a sterile debate, but the "esc" shortcut in many software (Music or not) has a meaning that is "exit without saving", i.e. close a dialog window, or exit a text field, without validating.
Keeping this shortcut for this purpose would not be a bad idea.

Cheers

your refusal to add this shortcut

That's only your wrong impression.

I was asking for reasons.
lozzec gave a good reason.
