I'm loving CA2600 as well. Messed with all the presets, did my own, PLAYED a lot, never once heard any aliasing issues. Didn't bother looking for it. Just musically fun!

Post

Has anyone tested whether the previous aliasing issues in OSC sync mode have been fixed? I would really like to get the CA2600, but I'm a bit hesitant.

Modulation distortion is probably a better word, but in any case, hardsync is still rough in the high registers, and I suspect it will remain that way. Don't think CA view it as broken, btw and to be fair, it's probably not easy to implement in a fully modular system. Softube's modular isn't very good at it either. Arturia's Modular V3 a bit better, as long as one does not try to modulate it too much ( and it's not implemented in a modular way ) . TAL Mod by far the best, but that isn't really modular either.

Having said that, this synth is absolutely great for exploring the wonderful world of frequency, amplitude, ring, and filter cutoff modulation ( at audio frequencies, that is.) Even pulse width and the electronic switch are usable in that regard. It's no U-he quality, but a it's nice synth, has a pleasant quick and easy workflow too ; I'd say it's worth the $25 CA are asking for it.

I'm trying to recreate this patch from Automatic Gainsay however I'm nowhere even close. Specifically the second one in the video which should be timestamped on the link.

At 3:02 he mentions Osc2 is set to the audio range but I can't see this option on the CA2600. I assume this is the default given you can patch directly from the waveforms

Attached is what I currently have. Any help would be most welcome.

There is a dedicated Sound Design sub-forum. Might be worth posting there as well....

I can't recreate that in any Minimoog emulation in such quality either (the vocal sound, I mean). Always seems as if the jerky resonance isn't up to the task.

Seems so easy when you see people doing it on their Minimoogs.

Hmmmm could be the case. I hope not though because I do like the sound.
I don't need it to be 100% but I can't even get 80% there so I think I'm overlooking something.

Ah, of course. Facepalm to me.
That's not my issue then so it's something else I'm overlooking.

Actually, there's another way to do it, you don't necessarily need to FM the filter. If the synth allows such routing, you can also audio rate modulate an oscillator playing a sine wave. Might work better actually, although I haven't really tried it out.

Will give it a shot, thanks.

Yep, this video shows how to do that on a Minimoog:

Yep, and hear how smooth and clean that sounds. Can't get anywhere near that on Monark or Model 72.

Guess those are the things where you notice virtual analog is... virtual. An approximation. Not the same thing.

You can't or no one can ?
