Damn gnats, just when you think you have swatted away the last of them, there is always one last f$cker that you just have to crush.

Drives Labeled only contain products from that vendor, because the space requirements for each are significant. So, I don't put multiple on the same SSD. I put them on their own SSDs.easyrider wrote: Thu Jun 02, 2022 11:51 amTrensharo wrote: Fri May 13, 2022 2:07 pm
I have 4 Drives in my PC.
One is labeled Native Instruments, and that's where Native Access installs content by default, one (used to be) named "IK Multimedia" and that's where the SampleTank 3, 4, Philharmonik and Syntronik 1/2 content was installed. Once you do the initial install, all subsequent content installs will automatically suggest that location. I could literally keep my finger on the Enter Key and SampleTank expansion content would install to the correct location. The initial install location is written to the Registry, so future installs reference it.
There is literally 0 management involved in this. It manages itself. The only thing you have to do, is Label the Drive and set the content installation locations when you initially install the product (or in the Vendors Manager App - Native Access, UVI Portal, etc.).
Same for my other drive, labeled "EastWest." The Installation Manager just installs everything to the proper location once you set that in the settings.
I'm really just perplexed as to how any of this can be difficult or "hard to manage"...
For anyone who has used a PC this long. It was far more involved 20+ years ago.
You label your drives really?
Why would you want to do that?
Are you on windows?
3x 1TB SATA3 SSDs is cheaper than 1x 4TB NVMe SSD (more is bandwidth needed if throwing EVERYTHING onto the same drive).
"Native Instruments" only has Komplete Ultimate Collector's Edition (850GB+) and whatever else I buy from Native Instruments (Expansion Packs, etc.).
"EastWest" only has EastWest Orchestral Libraries on it.
"IK Multimedia" only had IK Multimedia Products on it, because those products use a ton of drive space. I'm pretty sure Total Studio MAX 3.5 is easily over 500GB, and likely closing in on a TB. Now, it's my generic "Content" Drive for OneDrive and other smaller Sample Library Folders (i.e. UVI Falcon Content).
I' on Windows, but I did the same on macOS. I used to use macOS. I've always maintained a similar way or organizing this stuff.
General data does not go on those drives. They are for sample libraries only. Nothing else.
When you have 4-5 drives in your system, actual volume labels are a lot more useful (and informative) than Drive Letters.
If I said you are blocked, I won't see your posts. Please kindly refrain from quoting or replying to me.

1) You know the answerOllieBoi wrote: Fri Jun 03, 2022 1:25 am Hi All,
Now that the group buy is over, can we please focus on installation issues and especially on Syntronik 1 and 2 bugs and missing features.
I would like to raise a few issues that I am hoping someone can help answer/address:
1) I think I know the answer to this. But I have read conflicting reports: Have IK released updated versions of the Syntronik 1 instruments that can be opened in the Syntronik 2 editor? I don't think this is possible (which is utterly ridiculous that IK didn't update their Syntronik 1 instruments before releasing Syntronik 2). But if it is possible, would I need to re-download All of my Syntronik instruments from the IK Product Manager to "pick up" the updated Syntronik 1 instruments? FYI, this will literally take days because the Product Manager download speed is painfully slow and keeps timing out on my 2015 quad core i7 MacBook Pro running macOS Catalina.
2) Even after reading scores of posts in this thread, I'm still not sure how to consolidate my Syntronik 1 and 2 instruments and samples. Incidentally, I didn't actually participate in the Syntronik group buy. I purchased Syntronik 1 and then when Syntronik 2 was released I was able to purchase it at a discount. I distinctly remember the Syntronik 1 installer(s) telling me that the Syntronik 1 instruments and samples (and related content) needed to be placed within a Sampletank 3 folder (even though I don't own Sampletank 3 and have never had a Sampletank 3 folder on any of my drives). And sure enough, the Syntronik 1 installer did create a Sampletank 3 folder structure and placed the Syntronik 1 content inside this newly created Sampletank 3 directory. But when I installed Syntronik 2, it created a dedicated Syntronik 2 folder outside of the Sampletank 3 folder (and did not create a Sampletank 4 directory). My question is how do I consolidate my Syntronik 1 and 2 content? FYI, I have Sampletank 4 CS which I believe was "gifted" to me by IK Multimedia for purchasing Syntronik 1 and 2. I know I didn't purchase it.
3) I am experiencing an issue when I edit and save a Syntronik 2 instrument, the updated / newly saved patch will no longer open. I receive an error message that one of the sample content files is missing. Apparently, there is a way to address this issue by moving either or both the Syntronik 1 and 2 folders. But I'm not sure how to go about this.
4) The Syntronik 2 filter envelope velocity sensitivity control is totally missing in the Syntronik 2 editor AND in the Sampletank 4 editor even though there is a dedicated filter velocity sensitivity control on the basic edit panel of Syntronik 2 instruments (i.e., on the Syntronik 2 "editors" that have a limited number of parameters and which are styled like their source hardware synthesizers). This filter velocity sensitivity control on the Syntronik 2 basic editor panel doesn't actually do anything to control the velocity sensitivity of Syntronik 2 instruments. Turning up the filter "Velocity" knob/slider raises the filter cutoff (making the instrument brighter) but doesn't actually control the filter cutoff or filter envelope amount velocity sensitivity. Basically, velocity control over the filter is completely broken in Syntronik 2 AND in Sampletank 4. (The only way to add filter velocity sensitivity to Syntronik 2 and Sampletank 4 instruments is to add a mod routing in these programs respective mod matrices.)'
5) Syntronik 2 instruments are riddled with bugs. For instance, in the "99" FM hardware synthesizer there will be Syntronik 2 instruments that mention "filter sweep" or "notch filter" etc. in their description. But after loading the instrument, there is no sweep or notch filter that has been applied. Again, the filter settings are completely broken in Syntronik 2 instruments.
If anyone has any answers to these questions or suggestions on how to fix these issues, I would greatly appreciate your help.
Thanks!
2) and 3) Me too, for solve this bug you must consolidate your Syntronik 1 and Syntronik 2 content.
But for continue to use Syntronik 1 plugin with Syntronik 1 presets (for avoid syntronik 2 filter bugs) your sound content must be in a folder called "SampleTank 3" because Syntronik 1 does not allow another sound content folder name.
When you know that the only solution is to paste the Syntronik 2 content folder in the Syntronik 1 content folder so the "SampleTank 3" folder!
4) The "velocity" knob/fader in Syntronik 2 but in syntronik 1 too is a key-follow. It's a bad designation. By the way if you see in the new edit panel of syntronik 2 you can see that this knob is named "key" and not "velocity" like in the synth panel.
But yes in Syntronik 2 you can modulate the cut off, resonance... with velocity in the modulation matrix.
5) i don't know if you talk of "Digital transformed" and "Laser sticks" presets of 99 synth but yes the Filter section is broken in Syntronik 2!
For this preset, it's besause the "o-type" bandpass filter is broken for all Syntronik 1 presets loaded in syntronik 2.
And the "o-type" low pass filter resonance is broken too for all Syntronik 1 presets loaded in syntronik 2
There is a lot of syntronik 1 presets with o-type filter Low Pass or Band Pass
And i have found more like:Opil wrote: Sat May 28, 2022 11:28 pmThanks Teksonik!Teksonik wrote: Sat May 28, 2022 5:47 pmOk I can confirm that with at lease one Syntronik 1 preset in Syntronik 2.Teksonik wrote: Sat May 28, 2022 4:45 pmI've give it a test when I boot the studio in a few minutes.Opil wrote: Sat May 28, 2022 2:16 pm Can you confirme:
-That the LPF "O-type filter" resonance don't work on any syntronik 1 preset loaded in Syntronik 2
-And that the BPF "O-type filter" cut off, resonance and filter AHDSR envelope don't work on any syntronik 1 preset loaded in Syntronik 2
Try any of the syntronik 1 preset for this.
Thanks!
I used the simple OXa preset "SAW OXa" and in S2 the LPF "O-type filter" resonance doesn't work but in S1 with the same preset it does work.
I can also confirm that BPF "O-type filter" cut off, resonance and filter AHDSR envelope don't work. You can turn all the knobs in the Filter Envelope to zero including the amount and it makes no difference. Again they work fine in S1....
Good catch. Looks like you've found some more bugs.![]()
Yes, i found more bugs
1- When you set the LPF "O-type" filter resonance to 0 in Syntronik 1 and syntronik 2 for the same preset you can hear a difference again, there is a mess with the filter velocity sensibility, filter amount and filter envelope:
If you set the cut-off to 590Hz and the filter velocity sensibility to 1 on Syntronik 1 and Syntronik 2, for approach to the Syntronik 1 sound you must shift the filter velocity sensibility at -1,3 on Syntronik 2 but it is still not perfect because may be the envelope filter amount or the AHDSR filter envelope itself(if you play with the attack or an another filter envelope parameter you can hear that the timings are not the same)
By the way there is already diference between the "Fat Resonant Bass" filter preset parameters:
On syntronik 1 cut-off = 6khz, drive = 5 and vel = 1 but on syntronik 2 cut-off = 5.99khz, drive = 4 and vel = 0.96
And i have also the felling that the "round robin" are not the same between Syntronik 1 and Syntronik 2 when you are in this LPF "O-type" filter!
2- On syntronik 2 presets the 6dB LPF "C-type" filter resonance don't work
On syntronik 2 presets the 6dB HPF "C-type" filter resonance don't work
There is not any 6dB LPF "C-type" filter and any HPF "C-type" filter in syntronik 1 this is part of the new functionality of Syntronik 2!
3- "the inability to switch between filter slopes in the C-type and R-type filters" in the synth panel with syntronik 1 and syntronik 2 presets
=> it's a display bug only, when you try to slide the slope faders it move just a little but dont go the correct position but you can hear a little change.
This display bug occur too with Syntronik 2 presets:
Try the SH-V "Castel Analog Bass" and try to change the slope of the 'R-types"... you see the same thing but if you go to the new panel edit and visualize the filter you can see that the slope has changed and you can change the slope directly here too.
-On syntronik 2 presets the 6dB HPF "O-type" filter resonance don't work => there is not any 6dB HPF "O-type" filter slope for the syntronik 1 presets
-On syntronik 2 presets the 6dB HPF "Classic" filter resonance don't work => the 6dB HPF "classic" filter resonance is disabled for the syntronik 1 presets
And thanks to you i have find an another "display bug only" on the 99 synth panel!
If you load a syntronik 1 preset in syntronik 2 and go to the synth panel:
-if you choose O-type filter (lowpass, bandpass, highpass, notch) you can't see the slope( in syntronik 1 yes, it's a 12dB)
-if you choose R-type or C-type filter you have the choice between two slope 6 or 12 but in syntronik 1 it's 12 or 24!
I think it's only a display bug because the 6 dB slope of syntronik 2 sound the same that the 12 dB slope of syntronik 1 and the same between the 12 dB and the 24 dB slope of syntronik 1.
But only small amout of people seem to care about what they hear does not correspond with what the designers have programmed

Thank you for the wealth of information and such impressive troubleshooting!
I wonder what is going on with IK Multimedia to have such poor quality control. They seem like a pretty successful company. But maybe software and content development of this sort is just really expensive and they need to cut corners somewhere.
All I know is that I will NOT be buying Sampletank 4 Max - even at $199!

I'm pretty sure that I have been able to use the "Velocity" knob/slider in Syntronik 1 instruments to control the velocity sensitivity of the instrument's filter cutoff (or maybe filter envelope amount). When you have a moment, will you please confirm that this Syntronik 1 "Velocity" knob/slider is really just a filter cutoff key follow control.Opil wrote: Fri Jun 03, 2022 11:51 am 4) The "velocity" knob/fader in Syntronik 2 but in syntronik 1 too is a key-follow. Well starting to work on using Syntronik Max for my next gig. I think I have a decent grip on the arpeggio parts in Duran Duran's Hungry Like The Wolf (using an arpeggiated patch in the the J-8 synth).
For all you guys who are into synth sound design (k-v-r is a home for many) I wonder if there is some business model for you guys. There are a decent number of keyboard players in cover/tribute bands. They are not necessarily into the sound design part. (Please do not be judgmental).
Check this out (for hardware synths):https://www.narfsounds.com/
I think the problem is having enough of an installed base of VST users for people who want to use these patches for live performance.
Many would pay a buck or two to know that have all synth sounds they needs for a particular song (or a better deal if buy a bunch by band, etc.).
Actually, if a major synth/sampler company partnered with independent sound designers and had a group of patches ready made for certain songs in a separate section of their website. So people knew if they were getting that synth (Syntronik, Arturia Collection etc.) that would enable them to quickly deploy patches they needed for songs, that would be a selling point for that soft synth.
I am rambling. Blast away... (this is k-v-r, after all).

For softsynths you'd have to factor in how many potential customers actually play covers and which songs out of the millions.
Sure you'll find the ubiquitous "Jump", "Tom Sawyer", or "On The Run" patches in different collections.
I would find duplicating someone else's patches artistically unrewarding and incredibly tedious so it would have to be very financially rewarding.
I'm guessing if there was a solid market for "cover patches" someone would have done it in the VSTi world by now.

Is there anywhere online where people share Syntronik presets?
Would love to find a share what I've done and see what kind of stuff other people have done.

I believe that ability has already been requested, to be in a similar style as the ToneNET that IK has implemented for sharing AmpliTube 5 presets.skiltrip wrote: Fri Jun 03, 2022 2:48 pm Is there anywhere online where people share Syntronik presets?

I don't know if you read but yes you're right in Syntronik 1 the velocity knob/fader in filter section is to control the velocity sensitivity of the instrument's filter cutoff.OllieBoi wrote: Fri Jun 03, 2022 12:12 pmI'm pretty sure that I have been able to use the "Velocity" knob/slider in Syntronik 1 instruments to control the velocity sensitivity of the instrument's filter cutoff (or maybe filter envelope amount). Thanks!
In Syntronik 2 wich is based on sampletank 4 engine the velocity knob in filter section is a key follow
But the Syntronik 1 presets loaded in syntronik 2 continue to operate in the same way the velocity knob/fader in filter section control the velocity sensitivity!
You can see the difference between the syntronik 1 and 2 presets if you take sampletank 4 for load them.
