Latency below 2.9 ms? ..... Anybody?

I'm using the original Audigy Gamer, capable of running at 2ms quite well on my system. I'm running a 2.5 GHz P4 with 512Mb RAM and XP. The card runs at 48Hz with ASIO. I normally don't run it at 2ms, though, because it's honestly a waste of cpu power.
I really think the Audigy is looked over too much as a viable audiocard. With the latest drivers and some system tweaking, it's a cheap, effective card for those of us who aren't looking to support a full orchestra.
I run my Roland EF-303, Korg EA-1, 360 MidiBass, and Alesis Nanosynth through the Audigy (after collecting the sound into a mixer, of course), and it's never given me a lick of trouble. I get good frequency response and everything sounds clear through both my monitors and headphones.
I'd guess the latency of a Roland or Korg synth to be 4ish. It's really non-existant as far as my usage is concerned.

Does it really have to be Firewire? Why is an Echo Indigo io not a good choice?
Personally, I'm thinking Firewire for portability between machines (including the laptop).

What with all this talk about latencies. Classical organist deal with much higher latencies so why all the fuss.

But guitarists are used to much smaller latency! Like others have said, I can abide by a lot more delay on my keyboard than on guitar.Beardedone wrote:What with all this talk about latencies. Classical organist deal with much higher latencies so why all the fuss.

Plus, as allready mentioned, latency is getting almost doubled when monitoring audio through your host, compared to VSTi latency which is only occuring once.Markleford wrote: But guitarists are used to much smaller latency! There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

True I was wondering how much adjustment we can make given the limitations we are delt.

Thats why i always record in my bathtub. After tweaking the upper frequenses of my monitors a few 100db's i can almost hear the s-sounds.Sascha Franck wrote:A few things:
Sound is roughly travelling 1 meter in 3ms. So any additional 3ms would just be like moving around a bit on stage.
Speaking of travellingspeed. How long before the nerwimpulses say that you have plucked a string or struck a key? (thinking about the direct response when singing, unless you are an elephant blowing your horn.)
