Ah, but there's always gonna be a vocal minority no matter what you do...

But trying to reason with "fundamental sceptics" seems like a waste of time. It's like talking to scientologists xD

I think for many people, they will come on board as soon as it offers something they see as needed and is well enough supported in their ecosystem.
From my cursory glance, for me it's already:
1) Open-Source (but that's a small niche I suspect)
2) Extendable - the modular aspect is huge.
3) Being built and formed by respected people in the industry.
I'd agree that if Image-Line, Ableton, Presonus and maybe also Reason Studios added it to their hosts, it would have a huge benefit. I'd also think perhaps integration with VCV Rack, etc. would help a lot too.
It will take a while to take hold, and is unlikely to replace VST (not sure you'd want that anyway), but the way that the market has been democratised already - remember when it was 'Pro Tools' or nothing ? - shows that change can happen, and open-source/crowd-built is far more appealing these days than it was before.
Having said all of that, it probably also only takes a couple of influencers to make a single plugin/host using CLAP to become the new 'Serum' or whatever.
I'm just a nobody in a dimly lit room, really wanting it to become pervasive as it ticks all of the boxes for me. I'll do what I can, but as my contributions to the world in the last 50 years have made such little impact, I suspect we just need many more like me, who can make sure we talk/buy/help wherever to get it going.
I honestly believe it can happen, much more so with Urs such a big part of it, and u-he have demonstrated such consistent quality and dedication to the industry.

Oh, great point about Reason. They're their own niche, but CLAP seems like a perfect fit for it.

We tried to reach Reasonstudios through various channels, radio silence. If they supported CLAP, they could get other formats „for free“ if they also supported efforts to work on adapter technology. Which is forming as collaborative efforts in the industry atm too.

I just hope nobody expects Ableton to be on board just yet. Negotiations with companies that size simply don’t go easy. We have to hope for initiatives from the inside once word goes out
And of course we hope that users will start bugging them.

Considering how long it took them to implement VST3... It's basically just Reason left and some other niche DAWs (MuLAB etc), otherwise they're among the last to have it.
Well of course, there's the fact that VST3 is an absolute clusterf*ck to deal with, and CLAP isn't. We'll see.

Well, CLAP s thread safety measures should help create awareness of what a host or plug-in can do when. This will also improve stability for other formats where developers have to use psychic abilities to plan this.
Re Reason, we just heard rumors that they work on VST3 support. It’s probably too late to change that in any way.

Yeah they've been working on it on the heels of Reason 12 release.

Those voices just don't matter... like you say, it is already here to stay.Urs wrote: Thu Jun 09, 2022 8:03 am My concerns are solely the expected activities by fundamental sceptics who seek nothing else than to interrupt a formal discussion, be it about 927, or STDs, or general opinions that this will fail. It will not, because we will demonstrate that it's already there and here to stay.

Yeah this. I suspect that they will but that Bitwig also runs on Linux might force me to buy just one more DAW.

For the sake of discussion, let's say a one or two man operation is creating VST 2/3 plugins now.
How much effort will it take for them to develop for the CLAP format? Are there any special programming skills they will need to gain or a learning curve or ?
Will it take a sizable expenditure of man hours for smaller operations to add CLAP versions of their existing plugins?
As a beta tester I'll need at least one CLAP capable DAW to test the new plugins. I'm not sure the ones I own are capable yet.
Will there be enough people who want to buy CLAP plugins for small developers to justify the effort (at least in the beginning) ?
I hope the format is a huge success so we'll see what the future holds. Removing control from one company and creating an open format can only be a good thing for developers and end users alike.

This brings me sadness. I've been such a fan since I discovered it around v6 or v7. I've had the trial of Bitwig a few times and the 8Track version a couple times including a current license. My dependency on Push is partially to blame (I do know about the Push drivers for Bitwig). I'm giving a better look at Bitwig this time around. I like the fact that they are keen to jump on promising new tech. They've adopted WASAPI, MPE now CLAP. It also seems they work particularly well with U-he products.Urs wrote: Thu Jun 09, 2022 10:52 am I just hope nobody expects Ableton to be on board just yet.
