Windows XP computer has died - What is the easiest way to see filter(plugin) settings from Tracktion 2 files?

My old Windows XP computer has finally died. I have a number of songs, recorded in the last version of Tracktion 2 on it. I do have those Tracktion project files backed up, but I know that when I bring them into Waveform 11, which I have, I cannot see the settings on the plugins I used in the projects.
This is despite me finding all the original, largely 3rd party plugins, and installing JBridge, so that they could be used in Waveform 11. My computer with Waveform 11 on is running Windows 10.
I guess the easiest solution would be to buy an old computer running Windows XP, reinstall Tracktion 2 from the DVD I have, bring in the Tracktion 2 project files I have backed up, and hope I can see all the settings on the plugins, once I have found them all again, and installed them on the XP machine.
OR are there any versions of Tracktion that would run on my Windows 10 machine and would read the plugin settings from my Tracktion 2 project files?
I hope I have explained this clearly enough for you to understand the problem. If anyone has suggestions on how best to deal with this I would be very grateful.
The key thing I want to achieve is being all to see the settings used on plugins on these songs recorded in Tracktion 2.
Thanks.

Can't comment on the Tracktion side of things but before buying another computer, have a look at VirtualBox, this allows a sandboxed virtual PC to run on your Win10 box. Pretty sure it supports XP. And it's free.

I believe the early .tracktionedit files are all in XML format and can be opened in any standard text editor. If you take a look at those they ought to contain information about the plug-ins used and what the settings were. There may be some plug-ins assigned to tracks and others assigned as master plug-ins.

Pough and Jabe - thanks for your replies. I recall that it used to be possible to get old versions of Tracktion software on the website, but can't seem to find them anymore. Does anyone know if they are hidden away somewhere?

Link active for about a week I think.
I've just installed T2 on my computer, and it installed ok and played the demo songs that came with it without any problems.
Apologies if I've broken any rules, just trying to help.
Cheers

I started with T3, and at that time there was requirement for a registration key that was tied to the "hardware configuration" I believe. Even with the key, you would NOT be able to authenticate; as I found out when the original computer died. That was my first forced upgrade... as Mackie's registration site had gone offline by that time.

I've had a look to see where the old versions used to live, but can't see the location any more.21tones wrote: Fri Jun 10, 2022 7:29 am Pough and Jabe - thanks for your replies. I've a bad habit of not deleting stuff from the Downloads folder and have every version from 6 installed on this computer (including 32-bit and 64-bit for 6, 7, 8 ). Authorising these is another question. The current devs recaptured the software from the Evil Mackie empire as version 3 and rebadged it (maybe along with other tweaks) to put it out as v4. Whether you'd be able to get the pre-4 versions authorised, I couldn't say, and I've no idea what can currently be authorised after 3 I might have v4 and v5 downloads on other computers.

If you have purchased a version it should show up in your My Downloads -> Individual Installers. I can get installers for older versions, starting with 4. (Only version that I had actually purchased.)21tones wrote: Fri Jun 10, 2022 7:29 am Pough and Jabe - thanks for your replies. Surely there must be consensus by now...

The edit files are still XML but I'm pretty sure that the plugin settings are encoded and can't really be edited.jabe wrote: Fri Jun 10, 2022 2:55 am I believe the early .tracktionedit files are all in XML format and can be opened in any standard text editor. Thank you all for your helpful suggestions. I think I have a DVD with the original T2 on somewhere. I don't know whether it will install without passwords etc. I guess the only way to try is to get another cheap Windows XP machine. I should have made a note of all the filter/plugin settings. I didn't realise that bringing the saved T2 project files into Waveform 11 would not allow those settings to be read, but it does seem to work alright with the audio and midi tracks themselves.

Well - days later I am still awaiting a response from official Tracktion support. I feel stuck until I get a response from them, but really appreciate the offers of help re old versions of Tracktion, particuarly from Terry Noakes re T2. I did find the original CD with T2 on it but I am assuming this will only run on an XP Operating System.
Terry you said you had installed T2 and it ran the demo songs. Was that on the Windows 8 64 bit system you have in your signature? If it was I'm wondering whether it might work on my Windows 10 64 bit system?
