It's a really nice delay but does it need such a big pdc?
It makes it tricky to track keys or play live with it.

Sorry, but what's a "pdc"? I'm not familiar with that term.

Also, what do samples have to do with a delay effect?

pdc is plugin delay compensation.
It's how much the host needs to allow for the delay caused by running audio through the plugin.
Typically high pdc plugins would be limiters with look ahead, linear phase eq, or spectral plugins needing to do fft on the audio stream.
I can only thing that Double Dribble's ducker causes it, but the Digital delay has a ducker and no pdc.

It's probably the Unison module. MUnison also adds 2048 samples pdc by default.
