I'm happy with Bitwig and have had no thought to switch DAW's... but CLAP and this new capability has suddenly made Bitwig indispensable cause Bitwig's exceptional modulation system is now applicable to plugins!baconpaul wrote: Fri Jun 17, 2022 2:13 pmyeah for many folks, once you do this once, the light bulb seems to go off. it did for me, once i had surge implemented to support that.pdxindy wrote: Fri Jun 17, 2022 12:57 pm Today I was using Bitwig's Channel-16 and ParSeq-8 modulators to add parameter modulation only to specific notes in a midi clip with the rest of the notes unaffected, even if overlapping. This is Hive CLAP and using Bitwig per voice modulators to sequence parameters. 3 Held notes, each with a different sequence.

This sounds really, REALLY incredible. I've been using Bitwig for about 2 years but have barely scratched the surface (I'm mostly a guitarist and a frustrated synthesist).pdxindy wrote: Fri Jun 17, 2022 3:32 pm This is Hive CLAP and using Bitwig per voice modulators to sequence parameters. 3 Held notes, each with a different sequence.

So it sounds like you used the midi note channel filter to do per-note modulation?
Also: I didn't know ParSeq8 was even a "thing" -- off to youtube!
And hooray for u-he and Bitwig and all others involved, these advances will help me sound like I know what I'm doing when it comes to electronic music!

Seeing and hearing this type of stuff in action is both great for Bitwig, and great for Clap. These types of modulation are Clap's "killer feature" IMO. The kind of thing anyone who works with instruments can look at and go, "ok, that would be a pain in the ass to setup with another DAW or plugin format...I'd need at least 8 instances of Hive, need to route different notes to each, modulate them differently..."pdxindy wrote: Fri Jun 17, 2022 3:32 pm This is Hive CLAP and using Bitwig per voice modulators to sequence parameters. 3 Held notes, each with a different sequence.

...or just use Clap and polyphonic modulations! I think everyone can "get" that benefit even when the most abstract concepts don't click.

I am not sure everyone is really everyone.
That for instance wouldn't in the least bit interest me.. I get that for some yes it is great, and indeed happy for them.
For me, I don't currently have an interest in that.
What does interests me most about CLAP is any potential cpu saving... That is what affects my and I imagine most people's work.

My hype level has just increased exponentially. Would love to have my Omnisphere CLAP-ified, and would buy VCV Rack stat once they release in CLAP.
Also looks like I need to support u-he and buy a synth or two...

Potential indeed. So far i had quite some audio dropouts using bitwig and surge. Some heavy cpu spiking going on. Non clap has no issues. Ofcourse, this is all bleeding edge and beta software, so no complaints here (yet).zvenx wrote: Fri Jun 17, 2022 5:28 pm I am not sure everyone is really everyone.

Indeed, I am sure it will get better.
Which reminds me of something I have been meaning to ask.
Does Clap format allow easier resizing of plugins to be done by the user or not part of the goal?
So many developers with questionable resizing who are resistant to vst3 and say but that can already be done in vst2, yet...

And for some folks the fully unencumbered license is the most important but. I agree with you that different parts appeal to different people. I also agree with you that each of them is exciting!zvenx wrote: Fri Jun 17, 2022 5:28 pm I am not sure everyone is really everyone.

That's great news... any reason why that isn't mention in the Bullet points of benefits?baconpaul wrote: Fri Jun 17, 2022 5:57 pmYeszvenx wrote: Fri Jun 17, 2022 5:40 pm Indeed, I am sure it will get better.

I mean, we just coded it up and it works so I guess we forgot that resizable with a clean api was actually a benefit. But you are right I suppose thst it is!
If you look in ext/gui.h you can see the api. Making my demo vstgui ui resizable took 5 minutes or so (but I don’t do things like save stare and stuff just respond and repaint my background).

Oh and resizable guis are hard for other reasons of course. Vector assets, multi resolution bitmaps. CLAP is silent on all thst. We just give you an hwnd or platform specific equivalent and call resize wirh or if you let the host do thst and the host can

There's a typo in ext/gui.h on line 89: preserve_aspect_ratiobaconpaul wrote: Fri Jun 17, 2022 6:32 pm I mean, we just coded it up and it works so I guess we forgot that resizable with a clean api was actually a benefit. But you are right I suppose thst it is!
