Is Waveform getting fewer updates?

Maybe it's just an impression ...
In recent months, numerous instruments have been released (F'em, Abyss, Hyperion, Chop Suey) and Novum will be released shortly. Waveform updates come slower. Does the Tracktion team prefer to introduce new tools and update Waveform less frequently? I would be sorry! In this Daw there are still features to be introduced ...

apparently, yes.

When NAMM comes, we disappear.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

It may be all about cash flow. I am sure that each soft synth helps revenues quite a bit, especially the most successful products. So for Wavefom’s sake, I hope they continue broadening the product range.

On the other hand, I think there are many products (not just ones from Tracktion) that don’t achieve anything near to their true sales potential because not enough attention is put into teaching people how to use them.

In Waveform’s case, I have thought for a long time that more could be done to teach people how to use it and thus drive uptake and sales. Don’t get me wrong, there are some really excellent tutorials out there, but there are also some glaring gaps. For example, I would love to see more about automation, midi learn and video scoring, so that I can use waveform at a higher level (currently even the manual does not do these topics justice). Likewise, I would also love to see a simple but intuitive system for adding articulations and other sound variations (eg to make Spitfire and similar VST plugins more usable).

While I have had Waveform for years, I am currently using Cubase for most of my work, but I really love the waveform workflow and general approach and would be very happy to use waveform full-time if some of these issues were addressed.

My hope is that if some of the training and function gaps were addressed, then there would be a considerable growth in uptake and sales and we would all be happy :-)

those instruments are not made by Tracktion, just distributed so should have no impact on Waveform development at all. When I complained about the lack of Linux support for like Hyperion, Abyss etc they basically told me "not our responsiblity, we dont write them, bad luck."

so yeah, Waveform updates, nothing to do with all those fancy instruments!

Sure but last update for Waveform was March

Updates are definitely slower right now, but that doesn't mean we aren't working on it. Dave has been working on real time time stretching (rather than using proxy files) and it's been a pretty big job. Not sure when it will land as a user facing feature. The Tracktion Engine is open source so you can peek and see what might be coming as features in the future. Sometimes we need to pause and refactor things (like now) and then that allows a bunch of new features in the following months.

Like all software, Waveform is a work in progress. The basic approach of waveform is much more intuitive and useable than many of the DAW alternatives - this is something I really love about Waveform. Every new version contains some really good improvements and this happens at least annually.

There are, however, some gaps that I hope will be improved soon. For example:
- better methods for managing articulations / sound variations in virtual instruments (without being overly complex or labor intensive)
- better explanation of more advanced features such as midi learn, virtual instrument / CC / plugin automation both in video tutorials and expanded manual. After several years, I still struggle to get my head around how these work in waveform!
- scoring to video, including video track

Using a DAW to write music is ALL about workflow. I also use cubase and studio one, but I much prefer the general approach taken by waveform because it is so user-friendly and I look forward to future developments.

Keep up the good work!

I can observe this trend in most of the software I'm using. Waveform, but Cubase too, as well as Affinity graphic design products or Clip Studio Paint. In Cubase, we would be at version .40 these days, yet we're still at version .20, Affinity used to update their product line monthly, but we've been waiting for an update for several months now... A post-covid era perhaps? ;-) :-)
PS: I don't complain :-)

OK but I am not asking for new features right now, just for bugs to be fixed
