I use "round robins" as a name for the anti-machine gun effect, no matter whether samples or synths.
I was curious in what parameters to modulate through MMap to achieve the best sounding round robins.

That depends on what type of sound and how it is constructed. Envelope decay randomization works well generally speaking. A touch of filter cutoff randomization can work well too. And so on...Consona wrote: Sun Jun 19, 2022 7:32 pm

Thank you for the tips.
I've just discovered Diva has a Variance module, so I could try to modulate those parameters inside Zebra. Here's the quote from the site:

The Trimmers panel is where you can make your sounds feel more analogue. Control voice detuning per oscillator, adjust variance between individual voices (round robin), voice drift and more—adding life to your music. These options mirror the inherent variations in analogue hardware. As the circuit boards are not always 100% the same (due to component tolerances), oscillator tuning may differ slightly, some envelopes are a little less snappy. The individual effects may be subtle, but they add up to a more authentic analogue sound.

Why decay? Wouldn't it be better to modulate the attack to prevent the machine gun effect?

Any parameter that shapes the sound is fair game for randomization, you'd need to try yourself if attack or decay helps more in your particular case, or phase position, filter cutoff, etc.

That envelope times appear to be good targets for round-robin effects in polyphonic patches (I think the ASM Hydrasynth's analogue-feel parameter does mainly that).
