The new CLAP standard…

Will Plug’n Script and Blue Cat support the new Clever Audio Plugin standard in the future?
Polyphonic modulation alone would be worth it.
If I start to code, I would base it on CLAP and use wrappers for all the other formats, as it is the most feature complete of all and has the most liberal licensing as well…

We are currently keeping an eye on it. Let's see where it goes: implementing & testing a new plug-in interface is not cheap!

Yea, that would be great if CLAP goes somewhere big. But without support from the major DAW developers any new standard will be quite small and weak. I don't see the reasons why Steinberg or Apple will be interested. Maybe Ableton, maybe Reaper, though...

No support from big companies that currently have their own standard is not a problem. Having a "community standard" that works everywhere else would make sense, especially when freedom on existing standards remains limited. I guess it requires a few major DAWs to make sense, though.

As far as I read it, it eases also the development and has more features. Its probably easier to get a VST 2.4 code base adapted to VST 3. As there will be wrappers which translate CLAP to VST 3. The enthusiasm I read from developers is mind-blowing, especially after having read the complaints about VST 3 from the same developers…
It created more positive response from developers within 3 days after the release of version 1.0 than VST 3 in 14 years…

Plug-in developers adoption is one (good) thing, but to be successful, the standard will have to be used in multiple apps as well. It's probably quite difficult to make things worse than VST3 anyway
