In that case our version 12 upgrades must be on the old system. I took out the dongle and rebooted and in the control center it says "Soft-eLicenser (SeL).simmo75 wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 12:57 pm
It’s not dellboy, eLicenser is the old license system, the new license system is Steinberg licensing.
Cubase 12 released

Every instance of the elicenser software is a unique SeL. Cubase 12 license won't be in the SeL when you click on it though.dellboy wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 2:26 pm In that case our version 12 upgrades must be on the old system. The new application used for activation of C12 onwards is called "Steinberg activation manager" (SAM). That's where the Steinberg Licensed products will display.

It isn't so confusing when you actually read up on it.
Here are some infos on the Steinberg site about it: https://helpcenter.steinberg.de/hc/en-u ... -Licensing

Yes, you will still be able to sell your retail licenses using the Steinberg Licensing system. We will provide details of this process in the future.
Note, however, after you have updated an existing license for a Steinberg product to a version that uses the new Steinberg Licensing system, although the license for the previous version will remain in your eLicenser, you cannot resell, transfer or update/upgrade that license."

It says that the old version 11 cannot be re-sold, so if we pass it on along with Cubase Pro 12 it becomes part of the package and is being *resold*. It pretty much answers my original question for me, the old USB license becomes NFR and remains with the original owner.

Well the same is almost always true for upgrades regardless of the licensing system. Otherwise you could upgrade to the latest version for a significantly reduced price, and then sell the product that entitled you to that upgrade in the first place. For example if you upgraded from Cubase 10 to 11, you couldn't then sell your Cubase 10 license and essentially get the 11 upgrade for free.
Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

Exactly.
It either becomes NFR, or it's part of the deal (like with NI's plugins), if you sell the upgraded license.
Anyway, this will be the only occasion where it's a bit weird. Now that all future Steinberg software will use Steinberg Licensing, such issues won't be present anymore.

So I started the process and am greeted by this................
....................................................
"eLicenser-based licenses after upgrade to
Steinberg Licensing-based license
eLicenser-based licenses that have been upgraded to a Steinberg Licensing license may not be sold separately from the corresponding Steinberg Licensing license.
In the eLicenser Control Center, such licenses are marked with this addition:
(Upgraded to [...] with Steinberg Licensing)
Example: After an update from Cubase 11 to Cubase 12, the eLicenser-based Cubase 11 license is inseparable from the Steinberg Licensing-based Cubase 12 license."
....................................................
Which contradicts the original statement back in October 2021..................

Hmmm maybe I am missing something, how does it contradict?
I read it as once you don't upgrade (migrate?) your e-licenser license to the new steinberg licensing you can sell it. no?

Maybe I am missing something, but it seems to be saying that you must post (transfer) the eLicencer dongle to the new owner of the Steinberg License. If that is the case then what happens if you have lost the dongle? Its broken? or has been thrown away? Are you stuck with version 12 forever with no way to sell it?zvenx wrote: Mon Jun 27, 2022 12:14 pm Hmmm maybe I am missing something, how does it contradict?
