it's too soon! but i think you're overthinking it. people will look for, for example, 'vital synth' or 'vital plugin', not 'vital clap'. i mean, who searches for 'vital vst2'? it will all work out.ghettosynth wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 9:42 pmTry clap sampler.fisherKing wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 9:36 pmam honestly not sure what your point is. i know, if i search for 'vital', i won't find the plugin. but if i search for 'vital plugin', all is well. can you clarify? thxghettosynth wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 9:19 pmNone of those words have a common meaning in audio production. I'm giving simple examples. Try thinking about searching for a clap library that supports the clap format. There is ambiguity and that can result in search confusion.
Is it going to stop anyone from using it? Probably not. Is it annoying? I think so. Could it have been named better? I think definitately. As I said, I think that it is the least impressive part of the project.
Of course, I'm not surprised that the company that came up with BitWig likes the name.

I'm not overthinking anything. You're overreacting to my fair and reasonably light criticism. I've given enough examples and I experience this annoyance regularly. In some cases it can be quite difficult to find something subtle that has such heavy overloading. So, sure, people will find what they want, but I think that it's fair to criticize the choice to give a plugin format a name that is a very common search term for audio production, as well as common slang for an STD.fisherKing wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 10:27 pmit's too soon! but i think you're overthinking it. people will look for, for example, 'vital synth' or 'vital plugin', not 'vital clap'. i mean, who searches for 'vital vst2'? it will all work out.ghettosynth wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 9:42 pmTry clap sampler.fisherKing wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 9:36 pmam honestly not sure what your point is. i know, if i search for 'vital', i won't find the plugin. but if i search for 'vital plugin', all is well. can you clarify? thxghettosynth wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 9:19 pmNone of those words have a common meaning in audio production. When you're starting from scratch and choose anything, why go the "gearslutz" or "muff wiggler" route? Why choose anything that is even related to sex in any way, let alone related to an STD?

the thing is, once you have repeated that light criticism over and over a number of times, it becomes tedious and doesn't seem light anymore. You made the point, that is fine. The CLAP Devs have clearly stated they are not changing the name. Nothing much else to say.ghettosynth wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 10:36 pmYou're overreacting to my fair and reasonably light criticism.

i barely understand people who think the sky is falling, and here, you're saying the sky will be falling. you're stressing before the fact.ghettosynth wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 10:36 pm I'm not overthinking anything. developers can name their work whatever they like, and i am entirely sure people will find what they need, without any real fuss, just as we find 'vital synth' or 'diva plugin'. but i guess we'll see....

No, I'm not exaggerating at all. You are exaggerating my position and trying to use that as a way to dismiss it. That's a strawman.fisherKing wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 10:49 pmi barely understand people who think the sky is falling, and here, you're saying the sky will be falling. you're stressing before the fact.ghettosynth wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 10:36 pm I'm not overthinking anything. Again, there's nothing to argue about here. I'm not going to suddenly say "oh, you're right, that's not going to cause confusion." That's not the case, overloaded and popular words can lead to confusion in search results.
You seem to be implying that this can't be reasoned through before you name a product? Nonsense! Of course it can and of course these are some of the things that you want to think about. Obviously I'm simply predicting the kinds of things that will be annoying. TBH, they're pretty easy to predict.

Ask others. They seem to want to continue to argue with exaggerated responses, my comments needed no response whatsoever. The title of this thread is "thoughts on clap." I gave some reasonable thoughts and so I'm on topic.pdxindy wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 10:42 pmthe thing is, once you have repeated that light criticism over and over a number of times, it becomes tedious and doesn't seem light anymore. So the question is, can you move on? If so, please demonstrate.

I thought Google kind of worked in a nefarious way where it learns your interests and becomes more adept at bringing up what you're searching for, to the point that the more people gain interest in something, the more likely it is to come up in the top search results, even if the name also refers to something else that used to be a top result

I look forward to trying it! Clap makes effects a lot easier especially when you need to do automation. If you need help with the dev hit me up but the demo explains most of itghettosynth wrote: Mon Jun 20, 2022 9:14 pm
Look for my first plugin to be released soon: "Burning Unit" a unique distortion plugin in CLAP format only!
Can I try some of your vst3 and au plugins today to get an idea what it might sound like? I love an interesting distortion on a pad so should be fun. Lemme know when you ship it!
