I also have some feature requests:
1.) key range per layer
2.) 'randomize all' for the timbre flower
3.) FM like in Abyss (per layer ideally)
4.) Being able to adjust the default reference pitch
5.) Frequency Shifter fx could be interesting

@PetVor
I ask this in the hope it might make its way on to your ToDo list. In the top right corner of the UI one can see the parameter currently active but would it be possible to also display the current value? I have a tendency to use my mouse scrollwheel when making adjustments, and that results in the non-display of the value (dragging does display the value). This is a bit annoying, especially when using synced values where I find the mousewheel scroll quicker (non-synced is rather more a matter of listening than exact values anyway).
Anyway, back to experimenting.
Many, many thanks for both Novum and Abyss.

Thank you for the proposals! Short:gondii wrote: Thu Jun 23, 2022 5:25 am I also have some feature requests:

1.) key range per layer: ok. I need to find a good way to integrate this in the UI w/o clutter. As a workaround: use multiple KEYTRACKs
2.) Randomisation is planned ... different then you suggested, but I am sure you will love it
3.) FM -> will come in later update. Please note that this is a complex feature - it needs to work on arbitrary sampled material, and it needs to work together with granular
4.) Being able to adjust the default reference pitch - sorry - I don't get this - can you explain what you want to do?
5.) Frequency Shifter FX - hmm. I have planned this not as an FX, but to work per voice, as part of the SYN section. In this way it should work nicely together with the comb filter to introduce inharmonics. Also I have made some experiments to compute frequency shift in a non-standard way, with lower CPU consumption, in this way it could maybe even work per layer.

Hey everyone,
thank you so much for ever more feature requests - this is precious feedback!
Many things are anyways on my roadmap, but often there are things I had not thought of before. Also I find it encouraging to see this community sharing the ideas - please keep them coming!
I am open to almost any proposal, but I will take greatest care to avoid clutter and inconsistencies in the UI/UIX - I don't want Novum to end up as a complex monster with 3 levels of submenus and a manual of 200 pages of dense text.
And please keep one thing in mind - Novum is less than a week old, and I am an indie developer. So please bear with me - you won't see most of these things tomorrow or next week. Not because I am lazy, but because I am horribly obsessed by quality.

best attitude from a developer i have seen in a long while. very impressed with this approach.PetVor wrote: Thu Jun 23, 2022 7:07 am Hey everyone,

This would be a very good solution!PetVor wrote: Wed Jun 22, 2022 8:44 pmOh, yes, that would be handy, I like this idea!syncline wrote: Wed Jun 22, 2022 7:06 pmThis. Please. Perhaps using a special version of the Init patch that is set to play back the raw content of the dropped sample. This way it would be easier to hear (and understand) what each of the tools in Novum is actually doing.bmanic wrote: Wed Jun 22, 2022 6:04 pm A tiny little feature request: The ability to audition the original sample somehow, post conversion into layers but without all the other synthesis stuff affecting it.
If possible, auditioning of the layers themselves, without all the synthesis happening. This would help in determining which layers to use for what.
Cheers to the dev for sharing this wonderful toy!
What do you think of this:
* shift-click on the timbre dot will replay the layer in its original speed and pitch
* w/o SYN, w/o FX, w/o grains (just normal playback) and w/o START/L1/L2
* but will take into account the timbre flower, the envelope and the "HOMOGENIZED" state
Basically: "what you see is what you hear"
The only thing I might consider keeping is the sample START position. If we add samples that for some reason have a lot of empty space at start, it could get annoying to wait for the sample to play. So if at all possible, I would actually take into account the start position.. but I'm not sure. It could also be annoying the other way around. Difficult choice.. hmm.
Or could it be done so that the sample plays from wherever the mouse cursor is on the tiny display? Hmm.. even that would be a bit fiddly and could get annoying.
.. sorry I'm rambling here (or brainstorming.. whatever you want to call it!). Perhaps the simplest solution is the best one.

Would it be possible to show also the values e.g. 1/16, 1/8, 1/8., 1/8T etc. when delay is in sync mode?

Thank You for the detailed response. I think the purchase has already been worth it, so any additional features I see as cherries on top. But it all sounds very good and I'm excited for future updates. The FM added a lot of sonic depth to Abyss.PetVor wrote: Thu Jun 23, 2022 6:56 amThank you for the proposals! 1. maybe just little grey arrows in the midi visualisation section on the bottom that you can drag?
2. and 3. sound great !!!
4. Whenever I drag in a sample it maps to C2, but I would prefer it to map an octave up (C3). I end up changing it most of the time. Just minor convenience feature. Not too important.
5. per voice frequency shifter sounds much better than as an fx, nice!
To have the comb filter / fm / frequency shifter per layer is not possible, I assume? That would be... pretty amazing.

Proposal: Click INIT. Go to SYN, change to C3. Change the name to "INIT C3". Click SAVE. If you want use right-click in sidebar to make this your default init patch. Now it defaults to C3gondii wrote: Thu Jun 23, 2022 4:32 pm 4. Whenever I drag in a sample it maps to C2, but I would prefer it to map an octave up (C3). I end up changing it most of the time. Or do I miss something?
And if you import material with a defined pitch: you can click ESTIMATE to let Novum find out what note it is.

There is nothing on the Traction site, hence why I'm asking.

@ martui
Thanks for the info.
I've been away a few days and came back today to find an update was out (VI forum). I thought the update was out today, so I didn't look far enough back to Wednesday, on this forum, to see if there were any notes for the update
