valley: i respect your contribution to the 'tracktion scene' for want of a better term.. but i'm sorry that i have to strongly disagree with you now.

so valley: "Let's have a look at the obvious flaws in your line of reasoning here shall we: " (doesn't that sound irritating :)?)
If we divide the forum up into basically three groups, those who don't mind the occassional silly periods on the forum, those who do mind, and post objects to it, and those who do mind and don't want any part of it. You sit in that center group and accuse others of arrogance.
Totally wrong. i'm accusing the hoax posters of arrogance. if youd like to demonstrate how that's not the case i'm all ears.
Once you have worked out that there is nothing in a thread to interest you, you can just ignore it, no matter how long it gets.
yes thats right, sometimes i do. But i need to open a thread to see that its a hoax. Anyway, I find it interesting in itself that people here find it ok to make hoax posts when most people dont appreciate them.
I have little or no interest in mac threads, 'cos there is typically no useful help I can give, and nothing much useful I'm going to learn. I don't go around demanding that the mac users prefix their posts with [mac] or whatever, I just read the first post, think "OK," and ignore it from there onwards.
Oh come on valley, I always took you for a little brighter that that. you've missed the point by a mile. Hoax posters are DELIBERATELY midleading people.
I noticed a few regulars I admire have joined in this hoax thingie as if they're fighting against oppresion/conservatives
yeah, me too. ridiculous.

Ermm, that's what I said. :? You are accussing others (the hoax posters) of arrogance. My point is that by starting another thread elsewhere, you put the only entirely innoccent party to yet more inconvenience. That is in itself arrogance; you believe your right to object is more important than the lurker's right to a quiet on topic forum, just as you accuse others of believing that their right to post hoax threads is more important that your rights to have a quiet on topic forum. My point is you are being hypocritical. If you keep it all in one thread (as we are doing here) then it should bother no-one with the self-discipline to ignore what is clearly an off topic thread. If you take it to a new thread, you just prolong the problem.

I agree, the hoax thing is getting out of hand. A couple of threads of silliness is fine if that gives people some reason to check by the forum. So many junk threads that legitimate stuff gets missed is bad though. You wont find me arguing that.

I'm not saying they are the same thing, I'm saying the response by anyone who understands anything about online forums should be the same: click to the next thread and subsequently ignore the uninteresting thread.

And at the end of the day, the old newsgroup maxim will always hold true: don't feed the troll.

If your idea of humor is spamming the board with crap and pictures of groundhogs then you should consider watching some WWI documentary on discovery, since that is much more humorous. It was a little funny the first time, and maybe the second, but now it's just getting plain rediculous. Sure, you have every right to make theese posts given by freedom of speech, but you'll have to ask yourselves what you want this forum to be: A place for serious discussions about Tracktion (well, RawMaterial software, but honsestly, what other software of Jules' is discussed?) or a personal playing ground for "dedicated users"? In effect some of you have already answered this by telling people to put up with it or get out.
Since I made the humor comment, I'd like to clarify... This forum has always felt like a group of friends that use tracktion as opposed to a flat out all business corporate forum. This place has always been very personal, humorous, and offbeat. The very first two hoaxes were pretty funny imo.. beyond that.. whatever . Do I think it's overkill? yes... what do I do about it? I don't post in them... have I made my share of groundhog references? yup... do I think I have a grasp on when exhibit restraint? I hope so. Maybe all of this is a blessing, cos I can actually get some real work done...

"don't feed the troll." yes, that seems wise.. but i hoped that this forum wasn't filled with trolls. next time i'll think twice.

apologies, i read a 'the' in there where there wasn't one
you put the only entirely innoccent party to yet more inconvenience
I find it a bit strange to equate not having an opinion either way with innocence.. by this you imply that by vocally opposing something going on in the forum you are 'guilty'.

I feel that discussing the hoax threads is a topic that belongs in this forum. i'm sorry if you disagree.. but at least you can skip the topic if you're not interested (and you'll know exactly what your skipping).

I agree with you that multiple posts about the same thing (hoaxes and complaints alike) don't serve any purpose. but i understand that people don't want to complain about the hoaxes inside the hoax threads, because it pushes them to the top of the forum again (although ive done this myself).

That's a very valid point of course.
