Nope, you just pay for an upgrade when something new comes out that you actually want, no need to upgrade every year, just upgrade when you see something you wan, that shouldn’t be a surprise…not having to pay for any other updates for the next year is just a bonus as is 3 updates a year.

I don't agree. It's weird to watch updates roll by and decide on skipping it. You can have a situation where only one part of a yearly update plan offering is appealing to you, but you can't justify $160 or $130 on sale for that one small thing. Plus the only plan that is more expensive if you want to keep up on all updates would be Pro Tools. When you average out the cost the only way to stay competitive with other DAWs is to skip updates, to have old versions of Bitwig until you break down and buy it.

Flatly in the same two year period I've paid $260 for Bitwig, and $219 for DP, which generally speaking has about three years between upgrades, so if I want to stay current with Bitwig, it's going to at a minimum cost me 390, max 480. This is up to the end user to decide on value though.

This topic has been beaten into the ground before, and it mostly came up because my update plan literally ran out hours, not days before 4.3 came out. I don't want to be that guy in the happy thread. Hopefully they toss 4.3 my way without get all draconian about it.

Well, it is the way it is...I would take issue with 'if you want to stay current' you have to update', its more like if you want to 'add new features' you have the choose to update. If you 'want it all, always'' you still need only pay 130 USD every 18 months (just skip the beta phase!). Personally skipped updating for a year (missed 4.1 and 4.2) so its cost me 130USD in 2 years and I feel that's good value for me....I got 4.1, 4.2 ans 4.3 doe $130 USD and I get whatever comes out in the next year...It is hard to stay 'current' on everything (NI Komplete, V Collection, iZotope Producer etc) but I just skip a lot of other updates now a days as the constant trickle of Bitwig updates ease my GAS and probably save me money

Yes indeed.
I'd recommend taking it to the Bitwig devs instead of continue beating a dead horse to mush.

Like others, I only update if I a.) have the money and b.) the features offered are interesting to me.
I do the same with any non-update plan perpetual software license.

The amount of money spent has to make sense in relation to your use of the software for you.
If it doesn't, drop it.

In my case, I dropped every other DAW I had before (many

, I was happy with none of them) and so I actually save a lot of money with Bitwig compared to when I had Studio One, Reaper, Live, Sonar and several others.

I personally feel Bitwig to be the most forward thinking DAW, and things like CLAP and the exchange-format between DAWs that was mentioned a while ago are parts of that - building a more open and flexible environment instead of just bowing to the gatekeepers.
But if you just hate what they do or the features offered aren't for you, why bother?

It's personal choices that one makes that then one has to live with - it's not as if anybody is holding a gun to our heads over music software.

Anyway, I deeply enjoy the latest updates, the whole 4.x series made me very happy...
Direct FLAC playback, Delay+, Convolution, Comments, toggling Sends, Feedback, Sends for Sends, PipeWire support, all the Midi options... very good stuff all that saves me money, since I need less and less plugins - I actually sold a lot of them already and will continue to do so.

That's something I really like very much. A sound environment that don't want to force you as creator in a cage, when collaborating with others. That's an essential of supporting creativity and creators.

hmm hmm

although for me fiddling on MIDI keyboards work best, some chordtrack feature would be nice, so I would vote for chord track + chord/scale note highlighting in the PR instead (the way of Cubase)

Just use this in the Reason Rack in Bitwig now

It would be nicer (as would pitch correction) and I am looking forward to seeing what the next update brings- the good news is we probably wont have to wait very long to find out!

My biggest feature request would be that threads don't all devolve into talking about price and future feature requests.

If it really ran out within hours, just ask them if they are willing to prolong it for a day. There is a good chance it works out…

Yep, that's exactly what happened! Asked then about a grace period and they replied yes, with 4.3!

This is the one way you can extend and get Bitwig's price down a bit, falling on a .0 upgrade right when your Update Plan runs out.

And if it doesn't? The person would purchase/activate now instead of in about 3 months time. So maybe it works out to $40 difference. That is not some terrible result.

Bitwig will likely say yes, but either way its not a big deal.

The mouse bug in Mac OS is disgusting, but I can live with using Bitwig maximized.

At least, they adapted the windows buttons in 4.2, and now they are in the left and following the Apple guidelines, this was the most annoying thing for me.

And they also added trackpad gestures, so they are slowly showing Mac users some love.

Now if they only add AUv3 support like Ableton in the next version... Having access to my iOS synths in my desktop DAW is big for me, I'm heavily invested in the iOS ecosystem.

So probably, when my Bitwig license expires this Christmas, I will think in switching to Ableton. Even when I prefer every single aspect in Bitwig over Ableton.
