Just stumbled across a video presentation including interview from Sonic State:
I don't know if it's just me, but, I miss a little bit of bass in this synth. Already had that impression about OB-E. When I think of Oberheim and the SEM, I think of massive bottom end. The plugin has some, but, could be more. Again, could be just me. The sound is great overall, I just think it could be a little bit more beefy.

I've got OB-E V2 and downloaded the SEM demo. After a quick skim, it looks like all (most?) of the sounds are different between the two.
So - another way to look at it is that you're getting both a luscious collection of new sounds, as well as another synth
that might be more convenient to use in some situations. I'll most likely be getting this.

Thanks for pointing that out! That is a good point. I also take into consideration the cost of your average soundset with this kind of inexpesive product - its basically the cost of a soundset AND you get the synth with it. I also have OB-E.felis wrote: Thu Jul 07, 2022 6:46 pm I've got OB-E V2 and downloaded the SEM demo. After a quick skim, it looks like all (most?) of the sounds are different between the two.

Another small value-add is that PluginGuru Unified SEM already. So you also get the patches in Unify format for use with Unify. Unify 8 of them and have essentially an OB-E

This thing is so fat and beefy with such a massive bottom end that it's obscene.

Then they have to offer something that's worth what they're charging. That's how the economy works. For people who already own OB-E, the value simply isn't there.plexuss wrote: Thu Jul 07, 2022 5:58 pm Pay Our Software Developers

It should be free, for existing OB-E owners. That's my opinion. I'm going to keep sharing my opinion as often as I like; it's a public forum, after all. And likewise, you're welcome to keep sharing your cheap insults, since that's your maturity level.

I would suggest that you don't buy it then.

Right - why in the world would GForce charge for their time and effort -- to utilize the code from the existing product, modify it so it looks and behaves differently, test it both internally and with beta testers, document it, communicate and coordinate with Oberheim, and market/distribute it (of course channel partners happily market and sell at no cost to GForce). I'm with you -- every developer should just work for free when they use an existing product as a starting point. Shame on them for charging for their expertise and time! For that matter, you no doubt work for free... why would you charge your employer/customers for your time and expertise...?mholloway wrote: Thu Jul 07, 2022 10:43 pmIt should be free, for existing OB-E owners. No one is saying they should simply give away their work for free. The product is meant for people who don't already own OB-E, and they are charging £50 for it (£30 intro). Plenty of people will be happy to have the SEM sound for a lot less than the £150 OB-E. GForce will be paid for their work.emasters wrote: Thu Jul 07, 2022 11:05 pm Right - why in the world would GForce charge for their time and effort -- to utilize the code from the existing product, modify it so it looks and behaves differently, test it both internally and with beta testers, document it, communicate and coordinate with Oberheim, and market/distribute it (of course channel partners happily market and sell at no cost to GForce). However, for people who already paid £150 for OB-E, there isn't a lot of value in this mono version of the exact same thing. Maybe some OB-E users will buy it anyway. Some (including me) don't think it offers enough value to justify spending another £20. I don't expect them to give it away, but it would have been a nice gesture.

To you. Not to me. as an OB-E owner, I now own SEM and it's a great addition.Arashi wrote: Thu Jul 07, 2022 10:26 pmThen they have to offer something that's worth what they're charging.
