I am using the Arturia Piano V2 and I think it sounds kind of cheap despite being 200$

PianoV is my favourite piano plugin, my main use is for House & Techno. And yes, I also have Pianoteq.
Believe it or not, I crossgraded from V Collection 6 to PianoV3 for 49€ a few days ago, because it's the only Arturia plugin I use regularly.

PianoV and PianoTeq both sound weird and like phasey or something. PianoTeq is slightly better but definitely not worth the price vs just purchasing V Collection.

you paid $200 for it?
honestly did anyone really pay full retail for any of their stuff?

fun fact, download a Hex Editor, go to C:\ProgramData\Arturia\resources and open PianoProcessor.dll (found it somewhere else, and this rumour could be read, on several 'pages', but is more than a rumour;)
search for Pianoteq; i used the Piano V3 PianoProcessor.dll; Pianoteq 6.0.3 popups, several times, also Modartt... several times...
i did myself, for the first time, instead of simply paraphrase what i found on the internet...
not strange, why not license the code, why rebuild the wheel.. it is the engine, i assume, several things will not have been implemented..
(and $200, well, that is almost the price of the full V Collection, on sale... i see sale prices as the real prices.... which they are, of course. and of course, prices go down, after time, for some products... that is another thing(y).

I only have the Steinway D, Bluethner and Bechstein instruments for Pianoteq, but at least the Steinway D should sound similar to the American Grand in PianoV.
I don't know why PianoV sounds more pleasant to my ears, especially when it comes to chords. I made a side by side comparison a few minutes ago, I still prefer PianoV for my needs. Maybe the Arturia sound designers adjusted the instruments a bit, who knows....

as said, this was already out there... not my find... but checked it for the first time, with Piano V3...Rastkovic wrote: Fri Jul 08, 2022 5:56 amInteresting find!WasteLand wrote: Thu Jul 07, 2022 11:45 amsearch for Pianoteq; i used the Piano V3 PianoProcessor.dll; Pianoteq 6.0.3 popups, several times, also Modartt... several times...![]()

Modartt has licensed the code, perhaps even tweaked the code... i think developers not really like, that their code, is tweaked by others... but good chance they know eachother, and it is not something special... Softube comes to mind, delivers for Native Instruments, Reason (but is mentioned...). AAS for Live (but also mentioned), Cytomic for Live (is that mentioned, or made known?), etc.
it will contain the main DSP code, the effects, for example can be by Arturia, i didn't deep dive, and well... disassemble... too much for me, and against license i guess...
i don't have Pianoteq myself, seems great, but too much for me, not a real piano player, but i like to play with Piano V3 (and before V2 and V...).
perhaps the difference lies mostly in the effects (because i assume they are from Arturia themself)?

In the pro version of Pianoteq you can edit different parameters for each note. That's what I meant by "maybe the Arturia sound designers adjusted the instruments a bit"....WasteLand wrote: Fri Jul 08, 2022 6:45 ami don't have Pianoteq myself, seems great, but too much for me, not a real piano player, but i like to play with Piano V3 (and before V2 and V...).

ok, that explains a lot, of course i know the reputation of Pianoteq, but never looked at examples, for instance at YT, mainly; the price; and you can do strange things with it, which i like, but i have other plugins that can cover it, in a way...Rastkovic wrote: Fri Jul 08, 2022 7:34 amIn the pro version of Pianoteq you can edit different parameters for each note. they indeed adjusted the instruments a bit, the deep dive isn't there. that makes quite a difference.
EDIT: Pianoteq can do more than i thought, that makes quite some difference... and the example you gave is version 5... well great plugin... perhaps some day, in my case you never know....
but in the meantime; physical modelling is my way.... one of my ways...

never tried arturia´s but Pianoteq is the only piano vst I find fun to play. quite versatile too. I do think the lower register can sound a bit off, on some models more than others, but only if I´m nitpicking. layering and morphing is useful too. not too cheap, but I bought at the same time as my digital piano so it almost didn't hurt. good stuff.

Never paid the full price for any Arturia product.
Even the boxed versions of ModularV and 2600V that I bought in the 2000s at Thomann were price reduced....

I think it's fair to share that the Piano V3 is definitely impressive, and not cheap-sounding to me at all. It's a total rework but to use it is to believe. I urge you guys to give it a try and see for yourself. The sound quality and performance is incomparable to the earlier version.I_V_502 wrote: Thu Nov 05, 2020 5:55 am I got the Arturia V Collection and while I enjoy their synth sounds, I feel their Pianos sound like cheap 90s digital Pianos. They lack body and warmth to my ears. Does anybody else feel the same way about their pianos? I am thinking of getting the Keyscape Piano instead.
Can confirm that V3 version has been completely redesigned, including the audio engine, architecture, feature set, interface, and sound design. You could just tell this is a significant project for Arturia, not to mention, a completely new product.
Personally, it's a good value for money by far if you take into consideration what you get with the upgrade. Totally worth the price I got it for.

Oh, if PianoV is using PianoTeq...tech, than it makes sense why I think they both sound weird and phasy.
Weird, I remember demoing PianoTeq way back in like version 2, and don't remember having major issues with it sounding phasey. I'm sure it sounded less realistic than the current version, but something about the current version bothers my ear.
