Bitwig does not have the ability to audition midi clips on a given track.
Even if the piano player can't play, keep the party going.

I said this in another thread, but having just moved from the extremely restricted world of Maschine to Ableton, the amount of stuff I can actually do now - without having to work out Heath Robinson-esque workarounds is amazing!

Ableton Live:
- a midi drum editor (like in Cubase)
- better scroll wheel and middle-click integration (for zooming/navigating)
- processing of -100dB signals with plugins (like every other DAW)

Maybe its just me but I've always found drum editing to be pretty strong in Ableton. Not sure what a dedicated drum view adds to it. Studio One has a dedicated drum view and more often than not I just use the Piano Roll view as it jut easier to use. As long as I can see my mapped Drum Rack notes I'm pretty much good.

Eh, it looks pretty much the same as most midi editors out there.

If you're working with "one hit" sounds, the length of notes is just a distraction. In a standard editor like Ableton's, if you decide to move one note close to another you have to resize it (make it shorter) and you end up with notes of different sizes, which looks messier. That, or you have to start with very fine quantization settings to be able to draw hits close together. A drum editor's view is more elegant in this aspect.
And, at least in Cubase, it has a few other perks, like per-note (per-instrument) quantization settings.
None of this is earth shattering stuff, but they're little things that make programming drums a bit easier.

Ableton Live gets all the love for M4L.
If only Live had ARA and multi-touch and a couple more minor features I would switch to it just for the M4L!
IMO, the best feature of Ableton Live is its support for various hardware/MIDI controllers.

My Oxygen Pro 49 works so well with Live 11 that it feels like an Ableton Push Keyboard Controller. The Novation Launchkey 49 MK3 isn't nearly as good with Cubase 12's MIDI Remote System.

I've been trialing Live and Bitwig, and this amazing hardware support is - to me - a major advantage over Bitwig. None of this stuff works as well there as it does in Ableton Live. I'd like to use the mouse and keyboard a bit less.

Ableton's MIDI editors are not strong in comparison to many competing DAWs.

A lot of DAWs have this. Even Samplitude Pro X has had this for a decade or more. I think some of the lacks in Ableton regarding MIDI Editing are the result of them being focused on a specific target market for so long.

I do find it a bit unsettling that it's 2022 and they are still missing some things I personally find to be quite basic in this day and age.

I wish Reaper had the audio quantise of Cubase. Luckily I have Cubase but I really only use it for that feature.

It's annoying that Logic won't let you move channels around. Rather silly that it can't do that since it does everything else you need.

But now it doesn't matter much anymore since I write in Logic, but mix in Luna, which does let you.

Is S1 6 confirmed for this year? It should be this year according to their release schedule but couldn't find any info.

Have read around the internet that likely S1 v6 will be released late in 2022.
