Interface Woes (MacOS)

Hi,

I've been using the melda plugins for over a year now, and something keeps coming up and bugging me...

The interface is occasionally really laggy, glitchy, and low-res. Whilst unaware of the specifics I have narrowed down my issues to three settings: GPU Acceleration, FPS, and enable retina support.

I believe it has something to do with retina (as most applications have issues with it - well done Apple...) but I think my issues stem mainly from my use of an external monitor.

I run a Macbook Pro (15-inch, 2018) with a retina screen, yet I do my work through an external display monitor (2560x1440). Moving the interface onto the retina screen makes it much clearer and sometimes more responsive. On my external display the interface is a bit low-res - but the main issues are it being unresponsive and the text being REALLY hard to read - it all looks very squished.

In addition, changing to any style other than the default style causes MAJOR frame rate issues.

I have other more UX based comments on the interface - but this is the only thing actually affecting my usage of the tools.

Changing the settings doesn't seem to provide any drastic improvement, so I'm not sure how else to troubleshoot this...

I'd appreciate any help!

I have found the interface to look bad on my external display while the laptop lid is open. Melda appears to not recognize they’re different resolutions. I did see a post a while back that sounded like there may be a fix, but I haven’t followed up.

I close the laptop lid and it looks fine on my external display.

Have you checked any of the V15 Betas?
From the release notes:
"Plugins now support multimonitor setups with different DPIs between monitors".
Not sure if it translates at OSX though...

V15 beta works great!!!!
It looks beautiful!
And it also fixed some of the crashes I had with the help window.
Excellent I'm very pleased.

One bug I should mention is that wehn opening a plugin window the window gets confused by the monitor aspect ratio and seemingly makes the UI stretch outside of the plugin window. Easily fixed by just resizing the window. weird bug though.

Here you go!

And I LOVE what you've done with the interface for the new version - seriously amazing stuff!!

Quick note - this only seems to happen in Ableton Live (11) and Reaper - it hasnt affected any other DAW for me yet.

Hmmm, weird, can anyone confirm this? Btw. are you using the newest Live version? (they always had quite some problems with the GUI on Mac, which is not odd considering the mess there is... it seems like only Logic is able work properly on Mac :D )

I will give the most recent Live beta a go later - I can confirm it doesnt happen in logic however. I will also test FL Studio (mac) and Reason.

Using the most recent Live 11 Beta - VST3 still has that weird interface glitch. VST2 and AU do not. This leads me to believe it is a problem with Live as they really struggle with any and all VST3 plugins for some reason. What I'd give for a MeldaDAW ;)

Me too

I've had such an issue using Melda v15 with a retina M1 13" macbook pro with macOS 11 and an external 1080 HP EliteDisplay E243m display. There are drawing errors on the external, which I use for Ableton Live 11 native.

As these issues were unacceptable I went back v14, which still works great. I have had no issues with any VST/VST3 plug-in, now when many are native. For Native Instruments and the likes I use AU via the AUHostingCompatibilityService. Generally works great too, but some plug-ins need wrappers to have functioning controls. I have zero stability issues in my sessions in Ableton Live. I've used Live since 2014 or so and always manage to get it stable. Plug-ins that are unstable are vehemently discarded.

Any chance this is fixed in v15 now? I haven't heard anything about that it has.

I've had tons of issues in Live with many plugins like cropping windows, plugins not running at hi DPI, plugins not remembering the window size, etc.

Bitwig and Cubase have been flawless in this respect.

...fwiw...I use several computers with varying OSX.vers and multiple monitors for both LPx and Reaper, so VST/VST3/AU are involved. Maybe start without the external monitor/s and confirm the issues are present. If not, then Melda/etc are "ok." Then attach the external monitors. I've had issues appear/occur with the "setting/etc" on the external screens, pixel density, screen resolution, refresh rates, etc. At least then you issues will be isolated to whatever is causing them...it can be a pain...been there done all that...hth.../s~
