MacBook M1 'cores'

Hey guys

I have read a couple of posts suggesting VST's may work better than AU plug-ins on a MacBook. This is something I will try but wanted to ask another question first.

In the Waveform 11 settings I can adjust the cores of the laptop for better performance. I currently have it set to eight cores, but have realised the M1 Processor has four performance cores and four efficiency cores.

Should I reduce the number in the settings page from eight to four? Sometimes when I open a vst it takes a little while, also if music is playing and I re open a vst there is an audible delay.

For reference I don't use a dedicated sound card and make use of the headphone jack, or USB C directly to my amplifier.

Thanks in advance! Also if there is a section in this forum for sharing music with the community please let me know. Have a great day!

No worries guys

First thing I adjusted the cores in Waveform down from 8 to 4.

Then I deleted all of the Component files and reinstalled VST3 only with an additional VST3 from a friend (we make our own VST's - his are better). His name is Al AMin in case any of you know who he is.

VST3... wow... seriously! It opens really quickly. Part of the window doesn't fully open sometimes, but it isn't difficult closing then re-opening. It feels faster. Playing the sounds with the LPK25 wireless keyboard it feels, dare i say, very responsive.

This idea came about after reading some forums today, and the AU plugin may work better for people who use Logic.. but VST3 seems better for now. It seems to be running great.

Here are some of my beats if anybody is interested

Logic does not support VST3 at all, it ONLY supports AU, so obviously the AU plugin will work better in Logic.

Thank you buddy I wasn't aware of this until recently.

If anybody has an idea on whether I should set 4 Cores or 8 Cores in Waveform, using an M1 MacBook Pro it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers guys!

Apple said to run 4 Cores in a base M1 Processor - in case somebody needs this information in the future 😘
