Can you map different presets to different key or key ranges in MSoundFactory?

For ages I've wanted to create synth sounds for percussion where there's a different preset in every key. For example on C1 there's a kick drum, on D1 there's a snare, etc.

I know this can be accomplished with samples but can MSF do this with synthesis?

Yes it is possible to split up sounds in MSF by keyrange. There are a few ways to do it, such as setting the keyrange inside the sampler or you can set the range inside each module using midi receive. If you do it with the module it can be used with synthesis. Ex, FM Synth sounds in 1 octave, supersaw on C an octave up and then white noise from C# up.

Thanks Chandler!

So what you're saying is that the generator modules (oscillators, etc) have a range setting which determines which notes it can receive?

Just right click a module and select the MIDI channel and note range.

Thanks Hex!

Yeah, for now it's a bit clumsy. At some point there will probably be some "multi" version of MSF, which would let you load and map different instruments, but that's somewhere in the future.
