TBs GUIs have become really slick, this looks pretty! Not sure I need it, as i rarely ever use multiband compression, and I already have the one in Cubase and one from Acon.
Not sure what the reasoning for a preamp/drive section in a multiband comp is tbh…
A dedicated saturation/distortion plugin from Toneboosters could be interesting, though!

A super simple example, adding a bit of extra harmonic to a sub band without it becoming over powering, a multiband pre amp is very useful for bass sound design.fese wrote: Mon Aug 01, 2022 8:27 am Not sure what the reasoning for a preamp/drive section in a multiband comp is tbh…

I didn’t assume the preamp section was per band, but maybe it is, and then of course, you’re right, that could be useful.bungle wrote: Mon Aug 01, 2022 4:30 pmA super simple example, adding a bit of extra harmonic to a sub band without it becoming over powering, a multiband pre amp is very useful for bass sound design.fese wrote: Mon Aug 01, 2022 8:27 am Not sure what the reasoning for a preamp/drive section in a multiband comp is tbh…
So how about a multiband saturation/distortion plugin from TB?

Quick first-look/overview of ToneBoosters MBC (and how it compares to MeldaProduction MDynamicsMB)
The GUI is super well thought out and easy to dial in what you're after. Visual feedback is great for seeing what the compressors are doing the the audio.
Price is also pretty awesome. Super powerful for what it's doing at it's price range.
I love that it's not just downward compression, but also upwards. Makes it super fun to dial in some OTT-style dynamics smashing. Also 10 bands! That's crazy! The extra per-band stereo width and saturation options make for some good mixing tools, but because you can't define wave shaping it's hit or miss (mostly hit with saturation).
I don't see in the manual if it's doing peak or RMS compression, to my ears it sounds peak but I could very easily be wrong. I also didn't see a linear-phase mode which means you're bound to have phasey/comb like filters when using 4th order with many bands. It's not super obvious, but even in my video on a drum loop I could hear the effects of the filters.
I'm purchasing it! It's a much better workflow than what I'm used to, and the price is hard to pass up!

Yeah feels like peak, It can't quite nail the OTT preset, it really needs higher ratios for that, that being said it is the best multiband on the market right now, bang for buck, instant purchase from me after demoing this.

Bought... And... It's probably the greatest plugin... Ever made... For all of eternity...
Seriously though, it's good...
Two curves... Probably don't even need the 2nd curve, and it's easy to get rid of... (turn ratio down)
Either of the curves can be switched to upward compression...
And then yes, obviously the possibility of 10 bands means you can seriously alter the shape of your sound.
The preamp stuff adds a little flavor too. I'm liking the "Width" slider, and yes the preamp is per band.
The saturation and negative saturation (which is enhancement according to the manual), depth of which is controlled by the drive, sure why not.

I don’t really *need* another multiband compressor, as rarely as I ever use them, but the price/performance ratio looks excellent as does the usability, so I guess I’m nevertheless going to demo…
Only thing that seems to be missing is some kind of automatic or semi-automatic output gain compensation, which would be great to have in such a complex tool.

Ozone comp, which I have, only has 4 bands but surely that’s enough? Not sure if this offers much for me apart from those extra bands.

To be honest, I really like THAT! If you don't participate in the usualVortifex wrote: Wed Aug 03, 2022 9:39 am No email, no announcement, no publicity at all. Just quietly added to the list of plugins for sale. Not even a 'Out now!' feature on the main page of the website. Weird.

As with all Toneboosters plugins, this one is great. It would be nice to see the saturation section getting beefed up a bit over future updates (more saturation types).

What seems to be missing is a way to link the bands in any way. So if I want to lower the threshold or ratio in 4 bands (let alone 10), I'm going to have to click on every single one. Every other multi-band compressor I know has this linking feature, e.g. DynOne and MDynamicsMB. The copying and pasting of band settings is good but clearly not the same.
Until this workflow killer is sorted out I'm not even going to demo any further even though the feature set certainly appeals and generally I'm a ToneBoosters fanboy!
