£85 = $103.42. Now it's $108.36 and you'll get a free upgrade to RX 10. Only the current sale gets the free upgrade, previous purchases will need to buy the upgrade and that usually sells for $99.

Same here. I use RX7 (and previous versions) almost exclusively for removing unwanted background noises from field recordings, and/or setting a consistent level for background noise. Which is why I got it way way back, and it works well, quick, and easy. Also, just recently upgraded to SpectraLayers Pro 9 for more detailed/experimental stuff, so, there's that.

I have spectralayers as well and will have a play with that again this week before commiting to upgrading RX. I have never foudn Speactralayers as smooth to interact with tho - the spectrogram never looks as good and just feels a bit clunky. But I will check again

Going from RX7 to RX8 (Advanced) was a very worthwhile upgrade for me. The new (then) modules are very good and I've gotten some great results.

I did not hear good things about RX9 (poor results vs RX8, much longer processing times), however, and did not do that upgrade until the recent error by iZotope when they put their Everything Bundle on sale. Unfortunately for this discussion, I haven't had a need for it yet and can't speak to how well or not it works vs RX8.

All of which to say is: upgrading from RX7 is worthwhile, IMHO, even if it's just to RX8. From there I advise reading reviews and watching videos once RX10 comes out to see if they've addressed those issues, and to see if whatever new modules they introduce are valuable to you.

But don't forget: there will always be another sale. If you don't upgrade now, the opportunity will come around again.

thanks for your comments, valuable stuff. I am in no great hurry really- I'm still on RX7 after all - but as always and like most everyone else I can get sucked into a purchase with the merest sniff of a bargain

Is there a standalone (non-internet) software that is better at lifting vocals out of songs than the music rebalance tool in RX9?

In my testing audio pulled from CD to Wav, it can offer anywhere from isolating very pleasant, clear vocals to the other side of the spectrum of making them sound as if they are passing through a low signal cellphone call. But mostly the latter.
