Correct.
m-ac wrote: Thu Aug 04, 2022 7:20 pm In other news, why the hell have they added pseudo rack ears to the design so we lose 15% of the horizontal space
Well, we added a bit of width, so you aren't losing anything. If you keep it the same scale it will be a bit wider. Transitioning away from the flat look a bit.

More layer parameters exposed (filters, amp, trigger mode). All layer fx editable. Layer FX and Main FX are now compatible and share presets and fx can be dragged back and forth.
Oh that does look waaaaay better.

Still the big one for me - multi outs? You can easily see how it could work with the above layout, but will it?
Not for 4.5, we had to draw the line somewhere on new features or we'd never get it out the door.

Ach, so near but yet so far.

I think I’ll likely wait for Nexus 5, but if a sale offer on N4 were aggressive enough I might yet go for it.

Does reFX have any sale in August-September? Or is only once a year during/between November to January?

Historically it’s just been the Christmas sale, but I guess there could be a promo for 4.5 (I don’t they’ve ever had a significant point release before).

It’s £98 to update from 3 to 4. Famously 4.0 was a non-event - 4.5 certainly makes up a little, but stopping short of the all-important sep-outs means I’ll probably wait for a better deal.

Thanks! Yeah, I am banking on 4.5 release mainly for the promo on Expansions, since I already have 4 (of course I purchased it outright and not as an upgrade).

I can understand the discussion (disappointment) surrounding Nexus4 release and upgrade price, but 4.5 along with a site-wide sale should be surely enticing for you guys. Nexus5 should be out next year considering a 2-year cycle, so a nice sale NOW would mean a lot of those who did not upgrade get a good opportunity to get on to 4 without having to wait and also get some Expansions along with with the new discount system for an all in all win-win deal. I am not too hopeful about separate-outputs, as I also requested it once few months ago, but did not get a positive answer.

TBH it’s the biggest thing I care about at this point. Every other drum plugin I use has sep outs, I always have a kick group for working on it next to the bass, so it’s a major reason why I tend not to use the drums with Nexus.

More expansions are nice enough, but I don’t really need them. This simpler new mixer page is nice to have, but only the sep-outs would qualify as essential for me.

Exactly. I am with you here, which is why I also tried my luck with requesting it. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem they are interested in adding this feature. Would be a pleasant surprise if it comes with 4.5.

What's the point of separate outs when you can simply add multiple instances of a plugin? Do you really see a benefit in terms of CPU or RAM usage?

That's what I have to do now. It's possible, and of course a PITA, and the more layers you need to break out the more of a PITA it is. If you subsequently want to make any tweak, you have to make it to multiple instances.

It's not the end of the world, but it's the only plugin I own containing beats/drums where I have these PITA limitations. And a point I consistently make about Nexus is - this is essentially a preset machine. Forget it ever being a full-blown synth, it never will be. But it does need to be excellent at being a preset machine, being fast and customisable for a mix. And still, after all these years, it isn't, lacking basic playback functionality.

Adding rack ears back to a plugin in 2022.. lol.. regression. Even Omnisphere has dropped those silly things long time ago. It makes zero sense and is just visual clutter.. like how some manufacturers add "wear and tear" tot their plugin GUI's.. smh

I'm not updating to v4 until they return the ventilation fan on the backside.

I want to hear an A/B test with and without the ears before I make my mind up whether they're a good idea or not.

It was added back sometime in the 3.x timeframe. Click on the reFX or Vengeance logo lower right.
