VitaminD wrote: Fri Aug 05, 2022 12:34 am Is there a standalone (non-internet) software that is better at lifting vocals out of songs than the music rebalance tool in RX9?

In my testing audio pulled from CD to Wav, it can offer anywhere from isolating very pleasant, clear vocals to the other side of the spectrum of making them sound as if they are passing through a low signal cellphone call. But mostly the latter.
According to several reviews and YouTube roundups, "DeepRemix" from RipX is the best thing on the market for this at the moment, and it's on sale for $75 (25% off) right now. I just picked it up, and it did a pretty impressive job pulling a vocal out of a swing-style track I tried. It splits tracks up into as many as 5 or 6 layers (vocal, guitar, drums, bass, etc), and you get an interface a bit like Melodyne or Autotune where you can see the notes from each layer and move them to different layers if the AI got something wrong. I only had to clean up a few places where it thought a trumpet note was the singer. The resulting stems were a pretty mixed bag as you might expect, but the vocal was actually quite good, especially in sparser sections of the song; it even correctly kept harmony vocals and reverb. You can also muck with stems in a Melodyne-ish way, changing notes or timing and stuff, and it can save the notes from each track as MIDI too, which can be fun.

You can get 10 KVR Marketplace Points for signing up for the mailing list, and you can use 7 of those points to bring the price down to $68.

Yes, it does a decent job. Much better than RX9 on vocals. And is available on thomann for 55 USD.
Is this also good for separating lead vocals from backing vocals? Or lead vocals from doubles?

The benefit of the current IK 4-for-1 is that it includes bundles and crossgrades. So buy T-Racks MAX Crossgrade, get the MODO Bass Crossgrade, MODO Drum Crossgrade, Tape Machines Collection, and Tascam Tape Collection, or something like that.

You get the vocals out of the mix with those tools. Personally I prefer Spectralayers, for the myriad of sensitivities and configurations you may choose from depending on the work at hand, plus the tools available to work spectraly.

Once you have the vocals isolated, you process them with Melodyne, where you may separate backing vocals and even notes in a chord.

Double tracking and triple and more layer stacking of vocals would prove difficult to do at 2022.
However you have the additional alternative to apply Spectralayers' other filter, as a last stage (or in between), with it you may separate transient elements and so isolate the parts where the double tracking differs in the merged sound. You'd need to work section by section in a forensic manner and the learning curve is high, but the tricks and possibilities attainable are many.

Some of us had been expecting and waiting for these tools for decades. Personally am very thankful for what has been already accomplished.

My first thoughts while reading the e-mail was the exact opposite:
”Maybe too good of a deal when PA start introducing more and more NI/Izotope related titles later on in their shop”

Example: A new sample library released February 2023 by Native Instruments for $149 in the PA shop that subscribers get for $29… 8)

Pure speculation on my part, since Forever 29 is such a new thing they've could have given it some time but this abrupt ending shows that maybe subscribers would benefit too much when they start expanding with more NI titles in the near future.

So maybe they realised it was dumb for them, but too great for us…

I imagine it's more about artificial scarcity. After all they've existed for years now selling plugins at 29.99 and effectively well under that (once the various voucher schemes were taken into account).

Post

They're just trying to scare folks into subscribing because it probably works in their favor to sell a new plug for $31 instead of $15 a few months down the road

Yes that thought also ran through my mind…honestly I have no clue, but we'll all see why they chose this - in the near future 8)

In 2 months time "We listened and we've brought back Forever 29 for those who missed out"

Since they even introduced Mega Sampler that was exclusive for only Forever 29 subscribers, I start to wonder what really made them to ditch it out of nowhere…

No doubt PA has done extreme marketing prototyping, and at such, the pricing models may vary, change even to the point of discontinuance in order to see fit with the markets evolution.

The Forever 29 is not for me (haven't subscribed) and I agree it is a borderline idea for a badly fit pricing model for Audio. Subscription; a continual binding expense required to users who mostly have variable income and who may need their tools -as they were- in 3, 5, 10, 20 years on.

The thing is complete ecosystems are forcing their "captured" users with the obligation to update their tools and the protocols those use, like the yearly substitution of Mac OSX. Which by itself is a non-sustainable policy in the use of resources, and the outcome of petty short-sided, maximization of profit.
These ideas are then copied and implemented elsewhere. PA choice was probably one of the most adapted version of the subscription pricing model seen at the Audio World. Rent-to-own has seen some limited application, with the MeldaProduction version been the most amicable afaik.
Then we have the AVID and the ADOBE strict monthly billings, where recently even novel relaxation has been offered. Those who already have (8 years old) perpetual licenses have the opportunity to buy a one time upgrade ($499 if I remember well) so to update and get the new features developed this time and still remain with their old perpetual license. No new licenses will be emitted though.

//So we are seen the signs of failure of the subscription model in this sector, or at least the limitations its varying applications face, that are now being corrected somehow.

"Exclusive Autumn Sale! Forever 29 for 4 days only!"

Post

I read in their FB group PA will probably introduce Mega Bundle (everything) for $14.99 + 2 free plugins per year soon. So they try to get more subscriptions now.
