definitely looking forward to all upcoming chipsynths. just got myself two original gameboy color and usb-midi to gbc link cables to address them as hardware midi synths. but plogue's software is just awesome in the original meaning of the word. ;) 8)

chipsounds was an attempt to do too many systems in one plugin (read compromises). Most of it is still OK, but our constant research is 15 years more advanced now. (chipsounds was released in 2009 and we started its research way before). Still lots of cool sounds in there don't get me wrong.

Yep, while I am not particularly invested in chiptune, and my desire for exacting hardware emulations is limited to a few specific things, I find Chipsounds really useful for certain characters of beep and buzz.

But on those specifics... I love those TIA engine noises. :D Not the most universally musically useful sound, but it's a nostalgia gut punch on the level of Yamaha OPL/OPN for me. I was working on a track a couple of weeks ago and a Eurorack voice accidentally got into similar territory, so I decided to crossfade in a grindy TIA drone from Chipsounds as a sort of psuedo reverb tail.

Those steppy NES triangle basses are pretty sweet too.

Why is it still 100 bucks if this is how you regard it? I bought it at full price IIRC and then was later disappointed that it couldn't do some basic stuff an NES chip does when I read more into that chip (I think it was micro pitch detuning or something super basic like that).

In any case I'll be getting the NES chip synth the moment it comes out.

The NES 2A03 in chipsounds emulates the pitch limitations of the original fine. There are a LOT of sounds and emulations in there much more variety than in a single chipsynth. There is is no way to win at this. people will get angry however you plan your roll out.

Just chiming in to say I bought CS OPS7 the other day specifically so I can go through John Chowning's FM Theory and Applications. I've already learned a lot so far but I may have questions!

(This isn't the first time I've tried to get through it, but this is the first time I've understood the significance of the Bessel functions. Now I know why the fundamental is diminished when the modulator level is 76. Is there a chart mapping level to modulator index? edit: oh lol it's in the book, page 165.)

If it got updated with a way to do fine pitch adjustments in the wavesequencer thingie, let me know, I thought it was just semitone adjustments last time I checked. Otherwise, it does not provide proper emulation of the pitch capabilites of the NES "just fine". Micro-adjustments to pitch that aren't a continuously repeating lfo are extremely common in NES games. This is actually a pretty extreme restriction, given that the chip doesn't have very many capabilities in the first place. Just my opinion, but software that is very old and is lacking very basic and obvious functions like this probably shouldn't retain the such a high price. Then again, stuff like OPS7 actually deserve to be priced higher IMO.

In any case, provided that chipsynthFC provides the micro-pitch sequencing to produce NES sounds and music, I'll be buying it on release day.

I'm with you tbh. I've encountered this bug a few times and stuff like that just kills it for me. Not just this bug but the super sensitive knobs just annoys me to no end, I haven't seen worse knob behavior in a long time, so I just stopped using the plugin.
The way he initially completely misunderstood your bug report while being super condescending made me cringe too.

Based on the past, it seems like we should be getting close to another chipsynth release. I'll pick up whichever one it will be, but a Plogue C64 will be amazing. Also hoping the chipsynth of the TX81Z is still coming at some point.
