Have you tried Cmd-V? For me the key command works to paste into D1

Unfortunately, you cannot select empty pads. In your D1 case, you added a device already and so it could be selected.
Incorrect. I haven't added anything. I did click + sign I think but later didn't do anything.

It's empty completely. Even if I did added something to D1 and deleted that something in it why wouldn't I be able to paste something in empty (D1) space?

What beans? Seriously don't understand what you are after? I am not picking sides nor am I trying to stir something up? I think we are having a healthy conversation here. Even more so, people are being super patient with me.

NOTE to everyone: I am completely newb to Bitwig. Add to that fact that English is not my first language. I can come up harsh - but this is NOT MY INTENTION. I am no eloquent in English. Again I AM NOT trying to stir anything up.

In fact I am recommending Bitwig to everyone I know. And I am converting all my work to Bitwig.

I am just trying to get logic behind copy-paste. If this is not possible all fine. Not giving up on Bitwig.

I am more upset about myself for not understanding such a simple direction offered by pdxindy. I can not even paste "before" in the left pane, but it should be possible

pdxindy wrote: Sat Aug 13, 2022 2:27 pm There is no BEFORE in Bitwig (not needed). Bitwig always pastes AFTER the selected device.
How do you mean not needed? It is as if you sold me a car and then you say the reverse is not needed. I need it and they are offering it. It just isn't possible the way everyone else is doing it. I mean for example I can copy and paste in Reason or Cubase before a specific device and no specific knowledge is needed to reveal such a mandatory function.

If you don't need it I can relate to that. I don't think it's weird to expect a user can copy and paste an item in a specific order, before or after, especially after the fact that the application relies on the logic of chaining multiple devices in one visual line spanning from left to right.

It is needed.
pdxindy wrote: Sat Aug 13, 2022 2:27 pm If you want to paste at the beginning of all devices, select the track name on the far left of the Device Pane and paste.
This! I don't think I understand that. Perhaps I am not clear. I am a complete dumbass in Bitwig. Here is a gif. I copy the compressor and then select the left pane in the different track and no matter where I paste it always paste after the limiter. I tried to put pointer visually BEFORE limiter and click PASTE and it always pasted after Limiter.

Wow WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That does NOT work on my computer. That's exactly what I tried to do initially before I created this post.

How did you do that? But what when there are more devices?

Say there are three devices in a row, named 1,2,3, and you want to paste before 2nd or to say it differently just after 1st. ?

When I click on that area (in your picture E-HAT) absolutely nothing happens. I can not call any menu there!!?! Nor can I have that whiteish selector appearing as in your picture. This is how I imagined it would work!

Yeah, clicking on the + and then return will also 'activate' a pad. Without that though, you cannot paste.

Cmd-V will paste into the selected pad. So it may be that you found a bug where the right-click menu paste option doesn't work.

As is, right now, you can paste into any position. That is why I say it is not needed, since you can accomplish any objective.

For example, you have a track with devices 1, 2 and 3. If you want to paste between 2 and 3, you select device 2 and paste. Pasting 'before' device 3 is not needed because you simply select device 2 and paste and that ends up after 2 and before 3

In your gif above... you are attempting to paste into the Master track. Down at the bottom in the Device Panel, there is a Peak Limiter. Just to the left of the Peak Limiter is a + and then to the left of that a sideways word 'MASTER' (Track Name). Click on the area above or below the + will select that area and then paste

Try selecting the space between the track name (MASTER) and the Peak Limiter... where the + is, but not the + itself. Then you will see a rectangle selection box. Paste will go there.

I do it all by key commands or in the Mixer. The Mixer is the fastest place to make copies (Alt-drag) of devices and drop then exactly where you want on any track.

You have found some consistencies in the right-click menu method. That could certainly be improved.

It's like pdx said. You select what you want to paste after, not before. Notice the highlighting when I select with my mouse. It's important. Also, I'm using cmd c to copy and cmd v to paste. On Win it would be ctrl c and v.

In the drum machine you select the cell (after you make it) and paste right there with (mac) cmd v or (win) ctrl v. You can't do it with right click for whatever reason. Or I can't anyways.

Hello. I finally had time to practice with this.

Guys, I quoted both of you just for the sake of forum notification.

I finally "get it" even though it's a bit weird for me but I get it now and will adapt to it. and I wanted to say thank you to both of you. To have patience with me is not exactly nice I can understand that.

Thanks again and respect!
