Multi-touch monitors on Windows - do they really work well?

...but I can buy a pretty powerful desktop PC for about £1000 and if I can add a genuinely usable multi-touch monitor (lets say 20-24 inch sort of size) for a few hundred extra and it really works well for Bitwig then I'd be very tempted.

Just setup a 23" Acer Wide screen Touch Screen - it really does work well with Bitwig and for most of the apps I have tried.

My big problem (which may be related to my video adapter) is that I wanted to have my 27" Samsung monitor on and duplicate it in the Acer Touch Screen, to be able to work via mouse to the Samsung or via touch in the Acer, which is right beside me.

It seems that when I set anything other than "Show Only 1" in the Display Properties, the Acer is off by 1/4" from where my finger taps - not impossible to workaround but not very desirable.

I have used Win10 Calibrate several times with the dual config in mind without any luck. As long as the Acer is the only display on, it works like a charm... better than I thought it would.

But if I would have known this, I would have bought a smaller monitor (17" perhaps) to work on my lap.

Robin Vincent of Molten Music Technology did a couple of videos that may give you a better idea how it would work for you. Here is one using the Surface Pro.

I had the same idea regarding having a graphics tablet with touch and actually bought the Wacom Intuous 5 M touch when Windows 8 came out, thinking it would work that way with Wacom being the number one absolute-position device company. But to my dismay it was only a relative device with touch, working like a typical laptop touchpad which is totally useless for me. In fact I had to completely disable the touch function since it would always move or trigger stuff when working with it from my arm or hand touching it somewhere. ATM I instead use my older Intuos 4 without touch again.
Can't help with a tablet that works like you ask for.

I personally don't use a mouse if I can avoid it and use the Wacom pen in absolute mode for all my work.

A friend came by with his Wacom that also had touch capability. And you are right the touch is relative and did not help my mouse/touch issue. Now if I had remembered this post of yours I could have saved both of us the time and aggravation.

Now I am considering using a small Android tablet (which is absolute) and connect to my PC Windows 10 using a USB cable. Then get a tablet to PC app. See viewtopic.php?p=6865204

Your comments will be appreciated. Also considering the older Wacom (or other brands) pen and mouse combos. I understand that the mouse can be in either relative or absolute modes. But lately have become more accustomed to using gestures so touching a surface has may be a better way for me, besides it helps reduce hand discomfort.

My 23" Viewsonic multi-touch stopped working. It seems that the Viewsonic can not see the USB.
So the monitor works fine but is has no multi-touch capability.
So not sure what to do. Try to repair it, but will cost $$ with no assurance that it will be fixed.
Yes I opened it up and did a visual inspection.

Perhaps redesign my setup?

Looking to get one or two 12" multi-touch monitors. This will require a new expensive video card.
This will allow me to easily fit the 88 key midi keyboard controller on the desk.

Any suggestions?

It is .6" tick so can replace my qwerty keyboard or fit it in the place of the 23" damaged Viewsonic monitor.
There are several other brands 15.6" monitors available which I am also considering.
Why only 15.6" diagonal monitor? The XotoPad midi keyboard will fit just right in this size.
I may end up getting one more identical monitor if I feel it will help my workflow.

It's Full HD (1080p), so it's fine, but not as sharp as the new super high res stuff. But I don't mind, it's good enough, and you can still use older plugins that don't resize like Reaktor and it is a good size.

Hi ! It's been a while since i used Bitwig . Does the multitouch gesture works better ? I think, for example , about the drawing curve behavior or track resizing things ? does they consolidate the touchscreen gesture user friendlyness ?

i used it a lot on my surface tablet. All works fine. Here and there are things ther can be better i thing (on sreen keyboard does not pop up if you like name / rename a preset or if you would lik to type text in the search box. I send support a mail, there told me that there will integriate it on further updates.)
But i don´t know any other DAW that feels on touch screen like an "real" instrument..

I have a Lenovo P40 Yoga workstation laptop.
It comes with a Wacom Pen and a multitouch screen (if you selected that option).
It's an older machine, so you can find them cheaper now...

I use the multitouch and/or pen when using Bitwig. It comes in very handy.

Received the Lenovo T24T-20 ten-touch monitor and got it working.

In the Tablet PC Setting on this monitor it is stated "No pen or touch input is available for this display". It is clearly working.

After some reboots the message now states "limited touch support".
